Ideally, who/what would you like to hear replacing Steve LeVeille's broadcasts?

Bob started at 'BZ mid-day, doing Music. He was sent to overnights (post Glick) and stayed a few years. He was taken off and "put in the frozen food locker" for a while perhaps only doing traffic I don't remember? I don't think he ever did music again (Pace, Jeffords, Stephens in that slot).

He was reassigned to early am for a second time after a few years away. I believe he was replacing Maynard ( got morning drive) who had replaced Janet for a year(s) (I think Carl tried it but couldn't hack it so it could have been De suze for a few weeks, then Bob).
Finally they went back to Raleigh for his longest shift run at the station, ending with his retirement. Steve replaced him then.

I worked at BZ in the mid 80's. The schedule at the time I was there was Maynard mornings, Raleigh mid day Jefferies afternoons Peter Meade doing the issue orientated talk followed by Glick and Lou Marcel in the overnights.

Marcel came from WCCM to take over for David Finnegan in the early evening slot but he didn't last long partly because he was fond of taking on the Catholic Church. Marcel was moved to overnights replacing Glick who went to 10p to 2a. Peter Meade took over the 6 to 10 show.

Marcel became very sick with Cancer and was replaced by Raleigh. Management ie Bill Hartman put Raleigh on the overnights hoping he would quit and to stick it to him after his show they made him drive to the John Hancock where he would phone in a couple of traffic reports. Raleigh hung in there and became very happy doing overnights.

Dick Pace who practiced law in Rhode Island and had been at BZ in the 7-'s did Sunday mornings and I swear he said the exact 10 same lines coming in and out of the MOR musci week after week it was like watchng a guy do a show on auto pilot

I think by the time I got to BZ Janet had already moved to RKO.

I'd prefer that Morgan White, Jr. get the gig, but given that CBS-owned "Overnight America" is no longer heard on WCRN-830 (whose signal is beamed towards Boston), I wonder that in light of Steve LeVeille's retirement, and guest hosts filling-in on weekday overnights since then, CBS might try to again muscle "Overnight America" onto WBZ-1030.

As I mention in another thread WTKK runs Overnight America (still on as far as I know; unless
for some reason they pick up RedEye Radio on 96.9--and WBZ would most likely stay local.
It wasn't that long ago that people protested the sacking of Leveille...well now he's retired but
maybe they'll stay local but with someone making less $$.

Jeffries??? Don't you mean Jeffords? (Charlie Jeffords, that is.)

Best Rollye story ever.

He's doing his first shift at BZ. Takes a pitch from news or sports or something.

Straps them on and says, in that 70s delivery that Blair decided would be best replaced by Tom Kennedy.

"Sixteen past nine at WHDH (misses half a beat) which is where I used to work..."

An absolutely awesome recovery. Later that day I learned that he had worked for Richmond Bros. in DC, so the combination of that 19 seconds on air and surviving those guys meant I never wanted to hear a negative word about him again. Then with the shift to overnight, the attempt to break him with the traffic routine, I have to say that while I wasn't a fan of his act, as a broadcaster BR was someone that anybody who ever drew a paycheck in the business simply has to respect.

I saw that Raleigh was mis-spelled as Rollye..and for a moment thought this was about host
Rollye James who would occasionally fill in on Coast to Coast. She used to do a national
show. I hadn't heard her libertarian based political talk but a friend sent me airchecks of her "Friday Night Trivia" which was fun.

OK I guess she stopped the show last year

>>In 1977, the major networks, CBS, ABC, NBC were in a frenzied battle for tv ratings. The contest produced a runaway blockbuster. What was it? Roots...The Lunar landing was the most watched TV program of the sixties. What was #2? Tiny Tim’s wedding to Miss Vicki on The Tonight Show, also in 1969.

a whole list of Bob Raleigh"s.........same station name many different users

Bob Raleigh' Scorecard!
1) Raleigh Ferreira (March 1963-64) (& later at WWDC)
2) Dale Tucker (July - November 1964)
3) Todd T. Taylor (1964-65)
4) Paul Carmel (1965-66)
5) Bill Miller (1966- May 1977)
6) Dewitt Robert Raleigh (1969-71)

I should have specified the Station, WPGC Washington, I believe. Rolle - Raleigh Anglecized??
might have been a Richmond operation.

Given both the fact that WBZ-1030's weeknight overnight slot has not had a regular host(ess) since Steve LeVeille retired, and the fact that "Overnight America" (distributed by WBZ parent CBS radio) may soon lose it's current Boston outlet (WTKK-96.9 if they drop their all-talk format as is being rumored), I could see CBS again trying to muscle "Overnight America" on WBZ, thinking that since 'BZ doesn't have a regular overnight personality, it may be easier for them to order 'BZ to run the show again and this time, to have the show stay on 'BZ.

This doesn't mean that I personally am in favor of it; I'd prefer that Morgan White Jr. get the regular overnight gig at 'BZ. But for the reasons listed above, CBS Radio may take the decision of what to do with WBZ's overnight shift away from the management at 1170 Soldiers Field Road and make it at the corporate level.

You're prob right--he hardly spoke. I was going back and forth trying to determine. Boring to me...and it was weird to have such long stretches with just the guest talking, not even an uh-huh from the host.

It'd still be a national show, and that was the complaint. Regardless of where it originated, it wouldn't be a New England show with other affiliates... it'd still be Overnight AMERICA.
