Why does he eat crow here, but doesn't admit to all of the other errors in his column?

In our Monday media column, we had an item stating Ric Harris, the outgoing general manager at WEWS Channel 5, had been "firmly pushed" from his job as station GM. We lacked the proper sourcing to substantiate that statement. It should not have been made in our column. We regret the error.

Harris, Channel 5's GM since Sept. 2000, is leaving to become executive vice president and general manager of Digital Media and Strategic Marketing at NBC Universal in New York City. NBC Universal ranks No. 6 among the nation's top 25 media companies, with $12.9 billion in revenue.

In his new position at NBC Universal - created for him by the company - Harris will oversee its emerging media on multiple platforms, including digital TV, billboards, online, broadband and wireless services. He also will work directly with NBC's 14 owned-and-operated TV stations, located in top markets that include New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Notice he doesn't really admit HE was wrong. He talks about sourcing, and that WE regret the error in OUR column. Yes, I understand that the PD is publisher and they share responsibility, etc.

But for god's sake Roger--fess up for once that you really don't know what you're doing. And that what you "report" is really just crap you think up. It's not even gossip when it's made up, nor is it rumors. It's lies.

The only thing funnier in his career, is that the PD decided he was ao spectacular as Radio Beat writer that he deserved to be promoted to Sports!

I bet Livingston, Grossi, Shaw, Graeff, hell, even Bob Roberts are pissed that Roger Brown gets a column 3-4 times per week, when the others ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING!!!

He's a joke, and always has been. When will the PD wise up to that? I'm beginning to believe the tripe on the Cleveland.com boards that Roger really is an affirmative action hire.

I rather like that for a name of a column: "Crap We Think Up"<P ID="signature">______________

OA's OMW, aka "The Mighty Blog of Fun(tm)" tops that easily. ;)

I think you're a bit off based. Yes, Roger puts things in a column that would outrage journalism professors nationwide - but you gotta admit, everyone reads the guy and has a take on him. The funniest part of all of this is that each and every radio host in Cleveland rips on the guy, but then secretly calls him up to give him tips or provide comment. They love talking to Roger - so don't believe everything you hear. Incidentally, Burt Graeff is terrible - Branson Wright is the worst Cavs beat writer in the state - check out ABJ/Dispatch/News Herald if you don't believe me - and Livingston's columns are all over the place. Grossi is the only talented one in the bunch. I give Roger credit, he's developed an odd gimmick that involves sports/media/and real estate...lol. But at the end of the day, people read him, and that's all the PD cares about.

"Word is" that Roger Brown wouldn't know a fact from a rumor if the answer bit him in the arse.

Dude, you're soooo right...You're second to last line is absolutely hilarious and true...really hit the mark there!
Look, I equate Roger's column to say, Pro-Wrestling...It's fake, but people find it entertaining.

You and the JerseyGiant are hilarious!

This stuff is too funny. I agree with it all. I read his column every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It's funny stuff. How many times do you think he substitutes "word is" for either "In my opinion" or "my third party source says"???? Dead on about the Cavs column, when I used to live on the east side of Cleveland, I used to make it a point to get the Sunday News Herald. I can't remember the name of the Cavs beat writer but the guy's column was/is excellent! Frequent topics in the Roger Brown column if he can't find anything: (YES!)Real estate transfers, Brian Bedol of Shaker Heights and the College Football tv network, and some column space for a gratuitous mention of Chuck Galetti. Did I miss anything?

Mentions of Les Levine's show on Adelphia Cable.
Random speculation--I mean 3rd party reports--about Chuck Booms.
Updates on the career of Ronnie Duncan, and his kids college sports careers.
Whining about the Cavs re-signing of Z.
General WKNR (Jim Rome and Kenny Roda especially) bashing.

btw, the wwf analogy is spot-on!

Excellent!

Nate,
Phenomenal post! I can't believe I forgot all of those...especially Ronnie Duncan. I thought he disappeared off the earth. Only when Roger's column comes out, does Ronnie see his shadow. Today's column has his usual mention of ACTION NEWS director Steve Doerr.

Clue me in. What did you mean by the wwf analogy being spot-on? I don't get it.

In another post in this thread, lovethebiz said Roger's column is like Pro-Wrestling, it's fake but people are still entertained by it.
