If I were WBOS or WXRV or WPLM or WFNX.....

they used to have both 105.7 and 96.9 back in the early 90s
so why not?

That was only for a brief period because Greater already owned 96.9 WBCS and bought competitor 105.7 WKLB. They then merged the country operations into one. They wouldn't purposely run two country stations.

Put "HOT AC" on there, same call letters WBOS 92.9 "Today's HOTTEST Variety"

???

WBOS is doing better than WBMX, so I'm not sure why they'd flip to a format that's not doing as well as their current format

Also not sure why people want WBOS to flip and not WBMX...the BOS ratings are pretty solid for an Alt. station (which probably has a very wealthy demographic)

Imagine if you will...a major Boston signal...Changing to a format that is old school....Full service radio, news, sports, weather, music and real live personalities..no VT allowed... a game changer? or a visit to another dimension........

Suicide in the current economic climate. And maybe beyond, if the advertisers don't come back to radio from wherever they've been (the internet? cable TV? in survival mode and not advertising at all?) after the recession is over.

Please see WEMP and WWWN for confirmation of the above.

Yesterday I heard Joan Jett's "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" on WBOS, and I've heard a few songs by the Cars on as well. Maybe a subtle adjustment to win over some former Mike FM listeners?

Also heard Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun". It seems they are definitely going after former Mike FM listeners...a smart move

That's a ton of cume (850,000+) looking for other options on a weekly basis...it is a smart move.

WERS has a live jock on air 24/7/365. And 366 on a leap year. Music is on the hard drive, but everyone is live and pushing the buttons. No VT, no robo dj.

Of course, you can afford that when your on-air staff isn't being paid!

I see no problem with a commercial operation VT-ing the overnights from 12-5am, as long as the other shifts are at least live. But, VT your next air talent there, so they can grow and become your next midday jock or even AM drive personality. Don't VT someone who already has a damn job in NYC on your overnights. Use that time as a farm system to grow your talent. But that would be smart, and looking towards the future, not just a balance sheet for the next quarter.
