If you run the Boston radio dial, what would it be like?

WEEI has Red Sox contract a few more years.
Audacy committed to sports in many cities tho
ratings have suffered for awhile--but yes if Sox stay hot that can help.
Music plus Sox?
Are there baseball flagship stations that are music or is talk or sports more likely? Baseball has many more games and the play by play etc
takes up quite a bit of time, pre empting music.
Here we have Sox on EEI and all the rest on Sports Hub. What if Audacy put Sox on one
of their music FMs like 103.3, 104.1, or 106.7?
Because that is what you'd get on a "Music Format 93.7"...a big interruption of the music.
162 games plus pre and post season.

With Beasley some sports play by play got bumped onto a 92.9 or 105.7 but the other sports seasons are much shorter. (Very few conflicts anyway.)And again...
"Big 103.3.We're going to cut off the music
for the next 4 hours to bring you the Sox."
Nope.
They could always simply air The Red Sox back on their dead (ratings wise), 850 instead.

When the Red Sox won their World Series in 2004 and 2007 the games were on AM--850, then 680 (In '07 RKO was flagship with some games on WEEI 850). The move to FM was on 9-12-2011.

Boston Globe 4-28-16 (Red Sox re up with WEEI through 2023)--spot the error:
Red Sox radio broadcasts will remain on WEEI through 2023

"WEEI has been the Red Sox’ flagship station for most of those years, save for 2007-09, when the majority of games aired on Entercom-owned WRKO 680 AM. In those three years, just 30 or so games aired annually on WEEI. That setup ended in August 2009 when Entercom moved the broadcasts to the 93.7 FM signal and WEEI became the flagship again."

Nope..WEEI moved to FM in 2011
Sports Hub debuted in Aug of 2009 and 2 weeks later Entercom made WEEI the flagship again, shoring up the sports brand.

Chad Finn in the Globe mentioning the upcoming demise of Mike 93.7 in favor of WEEI moving to the frequency [850 simulcast
it for a year then went all ESPN]

I don't predict any changes, unless EMF buys up another station to put Air1 on. Not my idea of interesting radio, but they are staying on from donations. From a listeners (land of make believe) perspective, I would look to make variety in stations with repeated formats. One classic rock, one country, one R&B, one CHR/Hot AC, Sports Talk (I personally despise the sports talk format, love sports but hate sports talk), and so on. I wouldn't care how much of what my personal taste actually replaced these repeats, just that it added more variety. To me, the lower rated station would be who goes. For example, WKLB holds stronger ratings than The Bull, so The Bull would go. The question is what would that be? In all honesty, we could make an argument that there is room already for it on HD stations. Remember this takes nothing of billing and ratings into account. In the real world, two country stations get more in sales than one alternative station. It's also why I personally choose to use FM as a "next resort" when I feel what I'm streaming from my phone or satellite is getting stale. For example, I was driving my daughter home from practice yesterday when I switched to FM and was bouncing between WGIR-FM and WERS.

So, I make my observations but am not looking to revamp the dial. I will critique areas where I'm passionate, but that's about it. We can speak from fairytale land, but unless there is a hole that can be filled, it will be status quo.

From my standpoint, the opportunies are endless! That is if the corporate types are open to trying something new and risky! However, that is not very likely, because as the super conglomerates build up their empires, they have accrued a lot of debt also, therefore for them to take a chance could be deadly!

So, realistically, unless any of the Top 3 major players in this area are willing to divest one or more stations, it is sadly unlikely to happen anytime soon!

So funny. So many of us like what is no longer. Guess that makes sense, human nature. Personally, I’d love a 24/7 all news station but I know that takes a lot of dough to run correctly.

And as we know, iHeart isn't going to pour any money into it anytime soon, if even at all.
