IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY KRLD PUTS ME TO SLEEP, WATCH THIS

KRLD in 2008 compared to a station in another market 35 years ago?
Brilliant!

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY KRLD PUTS ME TO SLEEP......

WOAH...... STOP RIGHT THERE....

You have to have 1080 programmed in your presets to even select it in the first place. Or, go to the toruble to tune KRLD in manually.

Either case... I'm not tuned in, or having it on my presets.....

Soooooo no station putting me to sleep !!

Nice find, RT! BTW, that's the very same Randall Carlisle who anchored the KXAS-Channel 5 news from 1990-91.

WBAP ain't much better, judging from what I heard this morning.
What'd I miss? I've been on vacation all week. At least it can't be something "I" did!!

RT must be a WBAP fan. Now The CKLW piece was nice, but kinda reminds me of FOX today.all over acting, and embellishing with no factual information. Randall Cunningham, did nt last long at Channel 5 here. He had enough of Jane's chilly.

In response to the above.....

Yes, I was aware that Randall Carlisle worked for a short time doing tv news in Dallas. The point of the original post is that radio news can actually be dramatic and well written. CKLW 20-20 news, with Byron McGregor as the news director, was the best example of this in the entire history of top forty radio. CKLW made those newscasts sound great by hiring superior, well educated talent and letting them use their native talents to the best of their ability. CKLW also spent a ton of money on various other news staff elements such as reporters, news cars, gasoline and various other stuff. The result of all this was the superior on-the-air product. You can call it exploitive news if you want to but, anything that evokes any emotion of any kind means success. The Fox News Channel today uses some of the theories that CKLW 20-20 news practiced but, Fox does it with an obvious conservative, republican bias and far less talent in writing than CKLW had. Someone above gave the impression that CKLW 20-20 was somehow in valid because it was 40 years ago. I have a piece of news for that person. Do the same thing today as CKLW did in the mid 60s and it would be equally successful today. Good is good no matter what decade it is. If I compare CKLW 20-20 news in the 60s to either KRLD or WBAP today, there is no comparison. There is no doubt that the writing talent to pull off something as dramatic and high quality does not exist at either KRLD or WBAP and I doubt that either station's news budget is in the ballpark of what CKLW spent. I am considering the value of mid 60s dollars versus today's dollars. All I know is this, both KRLD and WBAP are poor excuses for news stations in comparison to CKLW 20-20 news in the mid 60s. I find them both incredibly boring and it sounds like all the newscasters are doing is ripping and reading news. This requires no ability at all. KRLD also uses a lot of canned CBS network news packages. I have a friend who works for CBS in New York and I have heard him on KRLD plenty. Why can't KRLD and WBAP be held to higher standard and really try to do something great rather than be the yawnfest that they both are?

Ahhh but that level of success costs money to achieve, and the el-cheapo station owners don't want to shell it out.

Their motto is "Greed is good".
