iHeart Music Festival on Z100

Like the 2011 edition, Z100 is carrying the 2012 iheart Radio Music Festival from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
I'd imagine there's one Clear Channel station per market carrying the show, likely a CHR if available.

As a compromise of sorts, time-wise the shows are more favorable towards the West Coast (7:30pm-12:30am Pacific Time) as opposed to the East Coast (10:30pm-3:30am Eastern Time).

As I type this, the Friday night show is running about 25 minutes late (hey, that's rock 'n' roll - and other genres - for ya).
P!nk has appeared with No Doubt and Korean rap/dance sensation Psy performed "Gangnam Style" before Lil Wayne came on-stage.

Unlike last year, though, there is a hefty 80-90 second delay between the live internet video feed and the over-the-air radio feed/iheart radio online feed in order to add profanity screening. I've already heard edits on the radio side. Last year, Z100 (and other stations, I'm sure) had to dump out of the Jay-Z appearance at the end of one of the nights since the censors couldn't keep up. Just under the online video screen, there's an "uncensored...viewer discretion advised" disclaimer as the audio that goes along with the video feed is live and "raw".

And you can bet in most "major" markets someone is babysitting the feed on the air .. I know a PD at a station airing iHeart in another market (not NY) that sat in his studio with his hand ready to "dump" any words that the censors didn't catch on delay [If something slipped thru].

I actually know of a few non-CHRs that are carrying it, Hot AC Mix 93.1 Springfield, and Coast 93.3 Providence, there's even an AC station carrying it, 96.1 WSRS Worcester. I also think it should be noted that radio coverage is a bit better than the live video stream, as in between acts they are live backstage.

Interesting that they're making it West Coast-friendly, but why? Most of the ears are in the Eastern and Central time zones. Even on a weekend night, there'll be quite a few Taylor Swift and Pitbull fans who won't be staying up till 1-3 a.m. local time to hear their favorites. Asking West Coast fans to show up/listen in the late afternoon on a Saturday would seem to be the option that would get the most listeners.

If you missed the show, there's also a TV special of the "IHeartRadio Music Festival" which will be airing on VH1 in November. Last year, VH1 aired the "IHeartRadio Music Festival" TV special, and I hope VH1 will air the TV version.

That was the best part of the show. You know what, he may not have been in his right mind, but he was right. Some people complain about how dangerous and stupid smashing guitars is? Bla Bla bla, clearly people have forgotten what a good rock concert was like for 40 years, not a bunch of predictable theatrical lip synced snooze.

Iggy Pop was rolling around in broken glass and peanut butter 40 years ago, the Plasmatics chainsawed cars in half 30 years ago, and Paul Simonon smashed his bass guitar in one of the most iconic album covers of all time for London Calling. I would love it if rock and roll became dangerous again.

Interesting that they had to delay 90 seconds to censor rather than the standard 7 seconds. I'm guessing they had multiple people on censorship duty so that they could screen out all the curse words instead of cutting out an entire performance. Maybe Clear Channel could instead ask the artists themselves to not curse on stage, and stipulate it in the contract that if they curse, the artist is responsible for all of the FCC fines themselves.
