iHeartMedia To Launch Sunday Night Podcast Initiative Across Its Stations

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/...night-podcast-initiative-across-its-stations/

Iheart to promote their podcasts on their OTA stations. Good Move for Iheart to do so though.

As it attempts to make more terrestrial radio listeners aware of podcasting, iHeartMedia is launching “Sunday Night Podcasts” programming across all of its stations this week.

The series will kick off with this weeks season premiere of the Ron Burgundy Podcast airing across 270 stations in the CHR, Hot AC, Country, Rock, Urban, and News/Talk formats. Future weeks will include other iHeartMedia owned shows such as “Stuff You Should Know”, “Ridiculous History”, “Atlanta Monster”, and Bob Pittman’s “Math & Magic: Stories from the Frontiers of Marketing”.

(Broadcast times and podcasts vary by station format)
§ “The Ron Burgundy Podcast”

I wonder what Mel Karmazin would say? Let's just say change is inevitable, and yes you have to diversify and cover your bases. The Podcasts ain't gonna be that cheap to produce and they may be profitable with some advertising, etc. But now, EVERYONE is going to podcasts. Even Dolly Parton is doing one. Is that a smart move for radio to tell people to leave the radio dial? Or a necessity since they already are? This is pretty interesting...

Here's what his successor says:

Podcasting is mostly talk, so doing a podcast on the main signal of a music station is breaking format. But using running podcasts on a Sunday night is a way to put them on traditional radio, and that's what this is.

Anyone can do a podcast for very little money. It doesn't mean it will be any good but how much do you think a podcast costs to produce?

Here is another example of Iheart promoting their podcasts.

iHeartMedia/Milwaukee is joining forces with The Wisconsin Podcast Festival to promote one listener's podcast on-air with the iHeart Your Podcast contest. The contest will give the winner an opportunity to have their podcast advertised on all six of iHeartMedia Milwaukee's stations including FM106.1, V100.7, 95.7 BIG FM, 97.3 The Game, News/Talk 1130 WISN and The Big 920.

Listeners and fans can enter the contest by completing an entry form and submitting a one- to five-minute audio file of their podcast to fm106.com, v100.com, 957bigfm.com, thegamemke.com, newstalk1130.com, thebig920.com or at the festival itself. The final day to submit a podcast online is Sunday, September 8 at 11:59pm CT. The winner will be notified on September 16. For official contest rules and more information, listeners can visit the FM106.1 website.
