iHeartRadio music festival to stream on ALL Clear Channel stations

I just heard an announcement that the entire iHeart Radio Music Festival will be broadcast live on every single station owned by Clear Channel. I don't know if I'm a good judge, but I think it should be only streamed on stations with the Top 40/CHR format, since I think that's what this festival mostly is.

CC promoted this concert on just about all of their music stations. My guess is that they have an artist at the festival that fits most of their formats although running this thing on all of their stations might be overkill.

The info you're looking for is contained in the last three paragraphs of the Clear Channel press release dated 9/19/2011 linked below:

http://www.clearchannel.com/Radio/PressRelease.aspx?PressReleaseID=3024

The mistake that the original poster made was what they "thought" they heard versus what was "actually" said.

The audio of the concert/festival will be streamed on all Clear Channel station websites and over-the-air on Clear Channel radio stations in over 150 markets - no specific station lineup is given, but I would assume that at least one station in each of those markets would broadcast the event. Likely it would be a CHR/Top 40, Rhythmic CHR, Hot/Modern Adult Contemporary, Adult Contemporary or R+B/Hip-Hop outlet that would carry the show. In L.A., it's likely to be KIIS-FM 102.7. In Riverside, possibly could be KGGI-FM 99.1.

Can't wait to hear it on Newstalk 550 KFYI here in Phoenix! ;D
I'm sure KISS-FM (KZZP-FM) will have it. :)

I'm just dying to see what a festival sounds like over radio. If it's anything like what I'm imagining, then.... it will be interesting to hear how this translates over radio, especially if ALL clearchannel stations here in Phoenix do it. I doubt ClearChannel would do anything to jeopardize their ratings, but if by chance turns out to be what I'm imagining, at least I can say that for every ClearChannel station we have in Phoenix, there is another station on the dial with a very similar format.

I guess in 1 minute, I'm about to find out how a festival sounds over radio....

Well I'm mostly worried about the ONE rhythmic top 40 station, WWVA, in Atlanta because I don't think this is helping them at all. It took them a whole year just to get to a 3.3 in ratings and Atl is already sort of "anti-rhythmic/top 40". All this talking probably isn't going to encourage people to give WWVA a chance this weekend  :( and the Cumulus (limited) adult top 40 station there is probably going to get more listens (and weekend ratings) as usual.

Adult leaning chr WWWQ and the bunch of urbans in Atlanta may benefit from this. Here in Az, however, we have a bunch of chr's, so not much to worry about here (and KZZP is already doing well in ratings, so if they lose any listeners due to all this talking, they'll come back because we're used to the top 40 sound here). But markets like Atlanta, where rhythmic CHR is kind of "out of the norm", I'm not sure how this festival over the radio is going to help... unless they get to the music QUICK!

Anyway, I'm thinking, if KZZP here in Phx can get by with Dawson McCallister, then I'm sure festival talking shouldn't be that bad. Hopefully eventually, there'll be music, and not just a bunch of noise and people screaming with a live band echoing in the background followed by more people talking... I'm about to go back to 101.5 JamZ in a minute because I'm not in a "talk radio mood" at the moment.

A festival is nice, but... over radio? On a WEEKEND night? Hmmmm... Well KZON and KKFR will be mixing in the meanwhile.

Well, A lot better than I imagined, after all! Doesn't sound like when a person holds a tape recorder up to the radio speaker to record their favorite song!

WOW! They should've just started off the entire festival with the AT TOP 40 guy to begin with! He explained everything that was going on and coming up in a nutshell in nice, clear detail!

In Seattle, KBKS 106.1 is airing it. Not hearing a lot of problems, lots of screaming before and after songs...

It's sounding better than I imagined. I just wished that with all this hype, things were a little more clarified in regard to the radio broadcast part. I'm sure with all the talking that went on in the beginning, many regular listeners probably tuned out. After all, regular non radio enthusiast listeners have no desire to stick around to see what happens next.

Also, when you hear "two day festival" and "entire thing will be broadcast on radio", what are the first thoughts that come to mind? Well, I'm just glad it's not like what I expected. This is actually a good thing to do on radio every now and then. It's kind of a stretch for simply trying to promote iHeart Radio, but at least they made it fun and live.

Now, I surely hope they have the censors ready for when Jay-Z comes on stage, after the errors they made with Black Eyed Peas and Bruno Mars! They messed up on the word "shit" by bleeping it a little too late after they said it a few times, then went overboard by blocking out a huge chunk of Bruno Mars's song during the part where he said "sex". It was so funny. They'll probably just want to not air any of the Jay-Z songs at all I guess.

I'm waiting to see what David Guetta has to offer...

OH MAN the Jay-Z one is FUNNY!!!!

Seems as if they are simply just randomly, periodically and frequently cutting out several parts of the Jay-Z performance to avoid any cuss words... and are still missing them! They might as well just not broadcast it! This is funny. They even cut out during the applause after one of his songs! WOW! It's like a very bad audio connection.

I'm sure some imbecile somewhere is hearing all this and saying "iHeart Radio is racist! They deleted 40% of Jay-Z's performance!"

WOW! is ANYBODY hearing THIS?

COMPLETE SILENCE on "JIGGA WHAT" by JAY-Z!

WOW!!

They really should've thought this through before airing it on radio.

I'm now listening based purely for the entertainment of hearing the pandemonium going on here! They're playing half a second clips every 10 - 15 seconds of this song! The rest is silence!!!!

Yet, some cusses still made it!

I noticed that last night with Jay-Z's performance, I couldn't even tell what was going on.

But I did wanna say that it did seem a lot better than what I expected. I actually watched the festival on Facebook, and I noticed that in between acts, on the radio they had backstage interviews, while online they pretty much just had commercials and spots with the acts.

Though I DID hear a rumor somewhere that this iHeartRadio Music Festival is going to become an ANNUAL event. I've heard some people say this is the new Woodstock, but I somehow don't think it's nearly as big. Do you think this could be an annual event?

Well since this one sold out in 10 minutes then why not make it a annual event. So many good acts didnt make the bill this year so next year they could give it a shot. Las Vegas makes sense for the city to do the concert vs. here in LA with all that damn traffic on the 110.

It sold out so fast because they only had a small percentage of seats available for purchase. Think about it, every CC single market, every single CC station gave away tickets to the show every single day since they announced it a few months ago.

My guess is they had maybe 100/200 seats for sale, the rest were all giveaways. This was such corporate BS marketing that everyone fell for.

Typical Clear Channel.
