I'll give you all the money in my pocket....

Hey WSYB Morning show host, Do you take requests? Sounds like you might, being that you play full songs! Again, I thought that WSYB was a NEWS TALK format! I guess it's a NEWS TALK and MUSIC WHEN THE HOST HAS NOTHING TO TALK ABOUT format. That's ok, it's typical of the parent company! Again, I am STILL waiting for someone to tell me ONE thing that this show provides that people cannot get anywhere else? Is it the exciting conversation? Probably not, this show has none! Could it be the weather? Nope, you can get that on your cell phone! Ok, maybe it's the up to the minute sports reports! Um nope, rip and read! Most morning shows have people talking about it the rest of the day, so tell me, with this WSYB morning show, what are people talking about the rest of the day? Tick tick tick, I'm still waiting?

(and before some people write in about me always hammering on this show, please don't waste your time if you haven't listened to it. Please don't waste your time taking cheap shots at me. I challenge you to write something constructive, regardless of how difficult that may be for some out there. And if you're asking me for what I would, it's simple, GET A NEW HOST!)

My apologies.... slip of the key on 1st attempt.

So Loon .... after 5 pages of responses to a string begun by you on this topic, the best you can come up is "get a new host" ?? ... really ?? how original, and full of real substance.

Spoken like a true 13 year old Jr. High kid.

All of your high school smack and obsession begs to ask the questions:

Why do you care?
Do you own the radio station?
Did your parents ignore you as a child?
Have you ever had a serious relationship?
Are you getting enough bran in your diet?
Do you have a life outside of radio?

God invented those little buttons on your car radio, use them.

Thank you khz for your MATURE way of putting me down! Seems to me that my 1 suggestion is 1 more than you've come up with. Instead, you liken my thinking to that of a 13 year old. Well khz, again, WHERE IS YOUR SOLUTION? As far as I'm concerned a new host might work wonders. Maybe a new host would give a crap, instead of going through the motions EVERY day! He is so bored that he bores whats left of his audience! And to you 12 In a Row, I care because I used to like that station. I do not own it, my parents did not ignore me, and I have had a serious relationship, I eat Bran Flakes every morning, and I enjoy playing tennis! So now 12, I ask you, what is your solution to the disaster now known as the WSYB Morning Show? Again, rather than poke at me, give us your words of wisdom, I can't wait!

I'm pleased to see you have a life. :)

You are but one man's opinion.
Why throw nasty spitballs and get all worked up over something you can't change.
Celebrate the fact this guy has a job and you have options.

Poon, what I think they're trying to say is, there are complex problems within simple solutions. If you took the time to post about things from a program director's perspective rather than just a rabid listener's, your words would have more meaning. In so doing, you might dilute the sarcasm with helpful approaches to resolving the problem. If folks are truly as clueless as you portray them, calling them such won't likely yield you the results you prefer, even if you had well thought out ideas.

Over a week has passed since the last post, and still not one useful thing the WSYB morning show provides. Silence is golden, I guess my point has proven, thanks for playing. Maybe I will make a request Monday morning, gotta love those golden oldies on a talk station.

Over a week has passed since the last post, and still not one useful thing the WSYB morning show provides.

It's called a dead thread.

Good heavens, has this thread gone way out of control, or what ? .. The morning show provides a service to the community. Local news, local weather, local sports, interviews with community oriented guests, national news, ski reports, closings and cancellations where applicable, lots of talk, the only place for people to call and be on the air..some entertainment.. It's been the same format for years, overall. In winter, you can hear the power go from 1kw to 5kw.. You can hear Rutland's famous Johnny call in (he's been calling in for years as well) Walt E. with his great sports trivia (see comments on Johnny). What else do you want here ?? It's a local yokel morning show.. You folks may not dig those who host it, but it is better than syndicated, better than static, and better than dead air.. Take this for what it is, now we can put this thread to bed.. Please.

Gadon, you are so right! It does provide local news, and sports. But have you heard it lately? Any on-air quotes from the mayor in the midst of the poilce porn scandal? Nope, only on Philbin. Any comments from coaches or players? NOPE! It is all rip and read, and even that gets done wth half an effort! My point is, the host is tired, dull, and not interested, and it shows. SO please don't sit there are tell me that it's local, remember, I asked for what the show provides that you cannot get anywhere else! News, it's all in the Rutland Herald, been there heard that! Sports? Get it all from ESPN, Fox Sports, in other words, I think the world knows that Canada beat the USA in hockey, but do they have ANY idea what the West Rutland girls coach or star player had to say after winning this weekend? NO THEY DON'T! If only the management wasn't so tired and naive, they night consider going to a national show, at least we'd get the same information, but done by someone that knows morning radio, because they obviously don't on wsyb!

Poon get over yourself and listen to something else. Noone takes you seriously and you can't think that the management will actually take what is said on this site to heart. No matter who writes it. WSYB is what it is.

Arnie.. I havn't figured out yet if you work there, have worked there, or you want to work there..Trust me, I usually don't go out of my way to defend these people, but I have to call a spade a spade here.. Since I do punch around the dial in the morning, I did hear a recap on the West Rutland game and local sports from Carleton Laird, (I think). It would be hard for WSYB to carry a West Rutland game at night, since after sunset there is not a listenable signal west of Center Rutland, unless you want to hear co-channel splatter from Naugatuck CT and Portsmouth NH.. You have a couple of options here Arnie Baby.. Call Pam and Al's Dad and make him an offer he can;t refuse, you know what I mean ? You can program WSYB and their other stations as you see fit, or find something else to listen too.. Online.. Dennis and Callahan, Imus, Boomer and Cartin, John Gambling are good listening. Sounds like you like talk, and "Free Beer and Dead Air" is not your cup of tea. Arnie.. In terms of a news commitment, there hasn't been a full time dedicated news person position for over 15 years, and no owners since have reinstated that position. We all know what happened to the Sports Director's position.. Arnie.. You have to lighten up and let things go.. I hope you are not tuning into 970 waiting for WHWB to come back. Hang in there Arnie and please listen to something else, you'll be glad you did..

Curiously, when did WHWB move to 970 and why? I'm pretty sure they were still a daytimer after the move. When did they go dark?

Gadon, here goes......if it's so hard to do a West Rutland game at night, then why bother with a Castleton hockey game AT NIGHT!! Also, it is good that they had a "recap" of the game, but no coaches comments, no players comments...yet they still bill themselves as VERMONT'S SPORTS LEADER, are they worthy of that? I know the used to be! For news, it is true, they've ignored a local news person, but have you heard the news latetly....OH BOY a famous Beatle once sang....As far as my employment goes, never worked there, never want to, I have a good thing on my late night shift. And for you BIG BILL, I thank you for your support, keep reading me, everyone else does!

Arnie, all this material has been addressed. I would have no idea why Castleton Night Games would be on that station. At night in Castleton, you are mostly hearing Spanish on 1380 AM, though Spartan Arena is in Rutland and the games DO have appeal outside of the college community. Aren't those games on NEK Sports.Net as well ? Great people there, including Jack Healey, though poorly promoted in our region to the general public.

"Old Bones".. WHWB went to 970 AM from 1000 AM to gain a longer broadcast day in the late 80's. At 1000 AM, it was truly a sunrise to sunset operation. On 970, HB' gained night power, albeit less than 100 watts, but enough to cover Rutland, Proctor, and West Rutland at night, and in the case of Proctor and West Rutland, better than WSYB since their night time signal is aimed due north east at night. The station went dark for good in the early 90's, and the self standing tower was demolished sometime in 1995. The cement bases are still there. "Con Brio Broadcasting" was the last owner and license holder of WHWB.

so the guy from Davey Crockett dies and the morning show host plays the WHOLE theme song!! When will someone get this guy to give a damn? Seriously, the ENTIRE theme song on a news talk station? Yeah, I know...don't listen if you don't like it...I've heard it all before. I tune in for the first time in weeks and I get the WHOLE theme song to Davey Crockett! I am so mad at myself, just trying to think of what else I may have missed by not tuning in! All kidding aside, the rest of you people on this thread need to stop beating on me, and start listening carefully to what is going on this station, NOTHING!

C'mon, why should we listen?

It's Rutland, VT, fer cryin' out loud, and you've already told us nothing's going on at this station. Frankly, I believe you, but you're beating a dead horse.

Arnie.. Arnie.. Arnie.. My question to you is, what would you like to have happen here ? The morning show there has always been some type of mass appeal general entertainment with some of the entertainers being more entertaining than others.. The Bob Bascom / Jack Healey combination was rather potent combination for it's time, for example. I'm sure that pairing would have done something with the Fess Parker passing as well.. "All News, All the Time, 1010 WINS", WSYB is not.. Arnie, Arnie, Arnie..

So this weekend is opening day in baseball, the NCAA Final Four, and the temps will be at above normal for the weekends, to name a few of things that are hot topics right now, and the morning show host on WSYB bores us by playing 10 minutes of songs about summer! Get rid of this guy! You mean to tell me that the morning show host on a TALK station, can't TALK for 10 minutes about a subject? I didn't realize that WSYB went to ALL OLDIES! I wonder if the FCC knows about this?

Why would the FCC care? I surely don't. Arnold, why do you keep resurrecting this thread?

Answer me one question....what do YOU want US (the readers of this board) to do about this? We cannot wave magical wands and make this station what you want it to be. I suggest you save your allowance and buy it and run it the way you want to. Until then...let's just say it takes a lot to get me irritated. I know, don't click on the thread if you don't want to read it. Blah-blah-blah.

There is nothing new under the sun.
