Despite the fact that there's no "when love takes over" by David Guetta & Kelly Rowland or "beautiful" by Akon, I am loving L.A. radio stations. I'm currently listening to The New @ 2 on L.A.'s Power 106 where hip hop lives and I am loving what I am hearing! Nina Sky's "beautiful People" better become the next big thing soon. I think I even like it better than Dj Sammy's "heaven". La Roux "bullet proof" I really hope it officially makes it to rhythmic, or "hip hop" radio. It was interesting enough that they played it on Power 106, but I guess after Nina Sky's "beautiful people", you could pretty much play anything. They could've just played Ercola or Daisy. I am not really feeling "outta control" by Baby Bash ft Pitbull. Nice beat, but stupid lyrics. Someone should have just sang on the breakbeat instead of rapping it out. Then they also play "who's your daddy" by Mook N Fair. This is the 45-50 minute long new @ 2 mix. The four hous in the mix on Power 106 mix starts at 3pm. Think about it... Then at 7, it's the top songs of the day mixed. At 9, mix 9-11. I really love a hip hop station that not only knows how to be active, but also plays things that some may argue are not hip hop. I guess depending on how you look at it, songs with house beats could be hip hop if someone raps on it. Either that, or they should work on getting a new slogan. Anyway, there's no dance station in L.A., but Power 106 seems to be doing good enough at flirting with the genre a bit. Other than that, I'd say Amp 97.1 is the best, but Power 106 is more fun.
I love L.A., but too bad I wasn't in San Fransisco! Radio has changed so much in L.A. since the late 90's and early 2000's. I can no longer get much here that I wouldn't already get in the mix in Arizona. I miss the days when Power 106 was the home for Lina Santiago, Jocelyn Enriquez... Angelina...etc. Not sure where Rockell lived, but 102.7 KIIS FM played Rockell.
Hmmmm.... I guess all I could say is that "hip hop" has REALLY changed! I wonder where that trance remix of "hotel room service" by Pitbull can be found? How funny they just play that version like that in the top 4 at 4, which is also mixed!
