I'm Paul Anka & whenever I'm in Providence I listen to Gio & Kim

Here's a good case in point where a morning show is doing what a morning show should do: fiddle with format. Apparently Paul Anka has seen fit to release a CD of rock songs done ala "swing". Don't laugh but I work with one girl who already rushed out to buy it. Anyway, I've heard a couple of cuts over the past week on the PRO-FM morning show (Black Hole Sun & Jump). I'm not holding my breath waiting for Smells Like Teen Spirit, which is on the CD, but I think Gio & Kim along with Tony Bristol know the area & the audience & know this is not a tune out on a morning show that also plays 50 Cent. Granted music isn't really the main draw in morning drive, but a little deviation like this can make a big difference. We don't see too much talk here about leeway when it comes to music in the morning, so it might be something others have differing opinions about regardless of format.

Re: Paul Anka on Stern Show

Paul Anka did a long, tell-all, entertaining interview with Howard Stern Wednesday morning - probably the best interview I've heard on the show in several years, like the Stern show of the '90's. I had no idea he had such an interesting life, hanging with Elvis, Marilyn, Frank, Sammy, Dean, etc. They played several cuts on the show, too. Anka said he'd write a tell all book "when two more people die"!

Re: Paul Anka on Stern Show

Stations should deviate musically in the morning if something happens it can be tied in to.I wonder how many stations that don't play Simon and Garfunkel played Mrs Robinson in its entirety after Ann Bancroft died this week since most talk about her career centered around The Graduate.I know for a fact FNX played Johnny Cash when he died if only once.I heard Charles and Laurenti interview John Mellancamp recently and play some live song by him he may have performed at the HJY studios.Ironically all morning shows are all over the map with format compared to other dayparts and some if it is filler like pseudo-celebrity interviews that add nothing.A song that breaks format for a good tie-in reason is a better idea.
