Images of America - Rhode Island Radio

Hello!
Please excuse the rather generic introduction - many of you I've had contact with or have been friends with for several years. In the interest of time and so the proper message gets out there (which is still a goal, I think, in radio around here), I thought it best to send out an appeal to anyone interested in RI Radio to get things started!

What am I starting? Good question. Recently, I signed a contract with Arcadia Publishing to produce a book on the history of radio in Rhode Island! Pretty exciting stuff for lil' Rhody...as we will be a part of Arcadia's "Images of America" series. The book is expected to be published in 2012.

As radio station people yourselves, I'm hoping that you might like to include your station(s), stories, memories, etc. for this publication, as Arcadia is the leading publisher of local and regional history in North America - and as such, the book will be a part of national archives and historical documentation. The premise is really very simple - snapshots of American history. So - I'm looking for just that - snapshots of your station(s), your personalities/on-air talent over the years, station publicity photos and/or stunts, promotions, and stories that you feel should be told, to be forever preserved in book form!

My background involves having been involved with radio (and television) in Rhode Island and New England for the past 23 years, primarily as a sports play-by-play broadcaster and talk show host. This project, however, also involves an organization that I work with on a daily basis - A Wish Come True - as a percentage of proceeds earned from the sale of this book will be donated to local wish children (ages 3 through 18 who suffer from life threatening illnesses). I hope that you'll agree to assist with photographic contributions from your station(s), especially since children from your own communities in this state will benefit!

Please feel free to contact me at this email address, or call (401) 781-9199 with any questions or concerns you may have; if you feel this request is better serviced by someone else at your station(s), or someone else you know that can help, please pass it along to them! Digital photos are best, and can be emailed directly to me. Please make certain to include information and/or stories about your photos, with correct names and spelling. The author/chief compilation officer (that's me) isn't responsible for misspelling and misinformation you might submit! If you have photos, but not in digital form - that's fine. You can scan them and send to me, or I would be happy to come by and pick them up from you...scan them and then return originals to you! Your contributions and credits will be included in print - in the book - for all to see. I would ask that any/all contributions you might make be submitted by March 1st, 2011...so we have plenty of time for addtional research and follow up prior to the final manuscript due date of November, 2011.

Your participation in this project will serve as permission to reproduce these photos in book form. So please make certain anything you submit can be reproduced legally! I thank you, in advance, for helping me to put Rhode Island Radio on the national (and international) map...happy holidays!
