Imus: 60 Minutes, you can all stop with: "The I man is not racist"

Earlier tonight 60 Minutes re ran their story about Imus from ten years ago complete with updated footage from the past week. When Mike Wallace questions him about some of his material being racist, Imus argues for Wallace to point out one example of any racist thing he's done or said. Mike Wallace reminds Imus that while in Imus's car he told Wallace's producer that " McGuirk (sp) " is there to tell Ni**er jokes". Imus denied using the "N"word, off camera the producer says that he did indeed say it. Imus's defense was " well that was an off the record conversation" to which Wallace calls BS on that. Imus never got it, in his attempt to defend his use of the "N" word he says that it was an off the record conversation thinking that somehow helps not realizing that if anything his using that word off the record is a true indicator of how he actually thinks. whhen he's off the recor there you have his true feelings. Those who want to debate the "N" word and claim "well the rappers use it so why should we be held to a different standard"? that is another conversation entirely, not even one worth having. The point is this is how theI man thinks, period. He's racist, he's not the first and he wont be the last. I honestly dont see how it is so difficult foir some people to come to grips with that. He has the RIGHt to be racist in his views but others have the right to call him on it and protest. Question is why would he be racist? he has so little exposure to blacks in his life, virtually no black guests on his show ever, he is a wealthy, wealthy, man who travels within the circles of the establishment where he would encounter very few if any blacks there either. Socially he is free to spend time with those he chooses so again he does not have to rub elbows with anyone he does not choose to. So if you live an insulated life and a good life at that, what do you have to be angry or hateful of when your exposure to those you dislike is so minimal?. What a sad pathetic old man.

Go to cbs.com and watch the episode.

But it's ok for the likes of someone like Charles Barkley to say to the media he hates white people. Do you think he and the likes of the rev. of racism Sharpton and Jackson surround themselves with anyone except their own except when it suits their agenda. Imus apologized over and over but that's not good enough. If Imus were a black man NOTHING would have been said. Let's see Sharpton and Jackson apologize to the Duke players that were rail-roaded for something they did not do by the likes of Sharpton and Jackson.

Why don't you get off your soapbox, stop writing these run-on, hard-to-read tomes and look at what the real issue is;

Rude, vulgar taste that has permeated popular culture. Rap, comedians who work "blue" , stupid DJ's who try to make a name for themselves by being like Imus or stern etc.

Imus has been a general purpose bigot for as long as he's be in NYC (probably before).

"Polack" jokes were his thing early-on. Late 80s he picked on that thug john gotti which must have gotten him a call or "visit" as he finally apologized and never mentioned him(atleast for the year or so after that i listened). He insulted that sleazy landlord trump who threatened to subsidise advertisers move to stern's show, Imus apologized.

Then there was that disasterous outburst in 1996 at a Washington Press Club function where he was speaker and mercilessly insulted Bill Clinton. He never apologized for that, he just called him a "fat pantload" from then-on.

At WNBC he constatanly insulted management and sometimes, his engineer, who gave back as good as he got.

His producer McGirk, has had a long running daily bit where he spoofs the (now late) Cardinal O'Connor who insults Imus in the most personal manner, they've done this for atleast 17 years.

His insults of blacks have been minor compared to what he has leveled at public figures.

Personally, I don't care that Imus is gone, I've listened mostly to Morning Edition these last 14 years.

Imus' popularity is a symptom of a coarse, vulgar, rude society. He simply exploited it.

So because you disagree Im on a soapbox?. I guess the simple soloution would be for you not to read what I write let alone not to respond.

Now where did Barkley come from? there is so much mis-direction in the Imus situation!. Barkley has nothing to do with it, nothing. Is it ok for him to say he hates white people? ( I do not believe he ever has, because it would be a very stupid statement and Charles Barkley is anything but stupid, but why let that get in the way of your argument ) OF COURSE NOT, so instead of drawinga false comparison here on radio-info, get off your ass and write to TNT where he is employed as a basketball commentator and tell THEM your problem with Sir Charles. jackson and Sharpton should apologize for their rush to judgement in the Duke case, BUT WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH IMUS?

Nothing!. You cannot defend Imus (if you have anysense) but the answer is not tangential posts about what bothers you about blacks.

Sir Charles Hate White People , Sir Charles is married to a White Women . Maybe He had a fight with his White In-laws . LOL :D

Now who is on a soapbox? seriously sorry your boy got it in the neck, and sorry you long for a simpler time when certain folk knew their places but unfortunately for you that time has passed. Talking about "the hypocrisy in the black community" is such nonsense, there is hypocrisy in every community, this country is a series of hypocrisies stacked one on top of another.

Get used to it, it does not make what he said any less stupid or insulting to many.

Well, atleast you have taken my advice and made your posts shorter.

Next step is to actually be familar with the viewspoints of those you respond to.

You demonstrate a lack of this with remarks such as: seriously sorry your boy got it in the neck, .

If you had paid any attention to my comments, you would have read my opinions and contempt for Stern, Imus, the lies that many black talk show hosts have told and, that mouth breather stuff on 92.3.

Anyone here can gas-off, that's an unfortunate aspect of these message boards.

Anyone here can make corrections aswell.
