Imus on "60 Minutes"... You can stop with : "The I man is not a racist"

Earlier tonight 60 Minutes re ran their story about Imus from ten years ago complete with updated footage from the past week. When Mike Wallace questions him about some of his material being racist, Imus argues for Wallace to point out one example of any racist thing he's done or said. Mike Wallace reminds Imus that while in Imus's car he told Wallace's producer that " McGuirk (sp) " is there to tell Ni**er jokes". Imus denied using the "N"word, off camera the producer says that he did indeed say it. Imus's defense was " well that was an off the record conversation" to which Wallace calls BS on that. Imus never got it, in his attempt to defend his use of the "N" word he says that it was an off the record conversation thinking that somehow helps not realizing that if anything his using that word off the record is a true indicator of how he actually thinks. whhen he's off the recor there you have his true feelings. Those who want to debate the "N" word and claim "well the rappers use it so why should we be held to a different standard"? that is another conversation entirely, not even one worth having. The point is this is how theI man thinks, period. He's racist, he's not the first and he wont be the last. I honestly dont see how it is so difficult foir some people to come to grips with that. He has the RIGHt to be racist in his views but others have the right to call him on it and protest. Question is why would he be racist? he has so little exposure to blacks in his life, virtually no black guests on his show ever, he is a wealthy, wealthy, man who travels within the circles of the establishment where he would encounter very few if any blacks there either. Socially he is free to spend time with those he chooses so again he does not have to rub elbows with anyone he does not choose to. So if you live an insulated life and a good life at that, what do you have to be angry or hateful of when your exposure to those you dislike is so minimal?. What a sad pathetic old man.

Go to cbs.com and watch the episode.

Re: Imus on "60 Minutes"... You can stop with : "The I man is not a racist"

and out of the dozens of cable access stations I know three of those stations used slang terms for homosexuals in derogatory ways. Two of the culprits got sued. Two out of three ain't bad sayeth Meatloaf.Either sue Imus for his use of the "n" word or realize some people are just plain stupid and need to use slang terms to get attention - Opie & Anthony, Howie Carr, Mike Savage, didn't you previously state, TowerBuzz, that "radio is a business" in some kind of warped defense of Opie & Anthony. ? ?

This isn't a cafeteria where you can select who can say bad things because you know them (or because they may have used the N word against you and then you had to shake their hand because they got your gig).
The rules have to apply to everyone.

Didn't Opie & Anthony make a racist comment about a former Boston area afternoon-drive DJ, then the
Program Director who was so outraged by the comment BEFORE the duo was hired, demoted the victim and made the victim 'accept" them? That being said, why should Opie & Anthony use the N word and still be on the air and you rage against Imus for doing the same thing? What if the PD made you shake hands with Imus? Would you do it? Why would Opie & Dopie get a pass and Imus get slammed in such a fashion.

This is a legitimate question I would like a legitimate answer to.

Because when someone smears me I only shake the hand of their boss (not the hand of the bigot) after I sue them and expose them for the frauds they are. Then I show "forgiveness" to be the bigger person.

Joe for all of your posturing about how you have stood up to anyone who in your mind defamed you, all you have done is file baseless lawsuit after lawsuit which has by many accounts brought your mental conpetence into question but solved nothing. You are still not a legitimate presence in commercial or professional media, you're appearaing on college radio stations and not even major college radio at that, and did nothing entertaining while there as evidenced by the podcast that Raccoonradio poseted here on this board. Comparing yourself to Imus, Opie and Anthony, or anyone else becuase you think you're some freedom fighter is a joke. Imus crossed a line stupidly I think we can all agree with that but this is not about YOU, Joe.

Please dont try to make it another forum about you and your heroic struggle against intolerlence which only you see evidence of.

I assume you are referring to Mike Wallace?

Ha Ha HA

Hardly.

But since you brought up Mr. Wallace, I dont think anyone can dispute that for a man of his advancing years he is still razor sharp.

Re: Imus on "60 Minutes"... You can stop with : "The I man is not a racist"

wow - didn't mean to hit a nerve and get you so defensive.

If you'd read my work instead of lashing out you might be able to express yourself better.

That being said, you failed to answer my question, once again. What is the difference between
Opie & Anthony calling a former WBCN jock a racial epithet and that individual shaking their hand
and GIVING them his position in life, and Imus being a racist.

Answer the question. Also, when the Woburn Advocate writes in big letters on the front page
JOE VIG BACK ON THE AIR, you can hardly call my win against MediaNone, I mean the former MediaOne, a baseless lawsuit. I've won more cases than most licensed attorneys. Indeed, I've gone after many
licensed attorneys only to see them get suspended. But this isn't about me. Answer the question
why Opie & Anthony aren't racists and Imus is. We're waiting.

p.s. if you get really agitated download THERE'S NOTHING LIKE A HIT. It's 99 cents. Support the arts and hear my voice...that ought to help you settle down!

p.s.s.s.t.: I'm not a lawyer so far be it from me to give you legal advice, but call up the Lawyers Reference Service and see about suing Opie & Dopie. I'd have a lot more respect for you if you did.

Of course you wouldn't because you don't to come to grips with reality. Your opinion does not make it fact. I saw "60 Minutes" last night and laughed hysterically at Mike Wallace ATTEMPTING to make an issue out of Don Imus using the "n" word in a private conversation with another individual. Talk about trying to make a story out of something that isn't (using language in a private conversation).

I hate to break it to ya, but just because someone uses a derogatory term in a private conversation does NOT make them a racist. PERIOD. I guess Chris Rock is a racist because he uses the "n" word to describe a select....umm "type of people" within his race. Just like people use the word "white trash" or "trailer trash" to describe...well, pretty much the same.

Don Imus very well might be a racist (and I can careless if he is), but stop with this "just because he uses the word in a conversation among friends, he's a racist" crap. That's just plain ignorant.

What would you consider to be evidence that someone is a racist?

Re: Imus on "60 Minutes"... You can stop with : "The I man is not a racist"

Anyone who uses the "N" word, even in a private conversation, who is not black is a racist, period.

That said, I don't think you should be able to sue someone because they made a racist or bigoted statement unless it falls into the category of slander. Our society is already sue-happy and enough is enough.

Re: Imus on "60 Minutes"

What about using "Cracker" to describe White people? Is that racist?

Both Jackson and Sharpton are on record using derogatory, racist terms to describe Jews. Yet they have radio shows. Granted, they have no audience, but their shows have not been canceled.

Re: Imus on "60 Minutes"... You can stop with : "The I man is not a racist"

He's really good at throwing meatloaf at someone who's trying to write him a ticket for double-parking his car.

Re: Imus on "60 Minutes"... You can stop with : "The I man is not a racist"

If imus was man or human enough to admit the obvious - that he is a tired old racist fossil, his lemmings will continue to deny deny deny.....and defend him.. pathetic..Mike Wallace not only showed him to be a vile racist but worse a cowardly racist LIAR
Yet his cult following will continue to scarmble and finger point at Rev Al Sharpton, rappers, yeah even oj to deflect.. *chuckles*
The fact is that the first group to speak out on imus was in fact an online group called Media Matters... but since its not a Black indivdual its harder for the race baiting apologists to finger point at them, so instead , Mr. Sharpton is the easiest target..how lame can it get...
Imus should have been gone YEARS ago.. the drunken ugly drug ridden fossil is such a coward that he tossed out incessant racists bombs and then like the true rat he is, hid behind the " ooh I reach into my money bags to give sick kids money"... pathetic..
GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD TRASH... his cronies need to be flushed along with him..
