And don't forget live sports. Is the full broadcast of the AM going to be available here, or are the leagues going to demand customers pay for their games to be heard on these services? That's about the only reason I have to tune to the AM band anymore, and not much of one at that being as the team I really want to hear isn't even on the radio in my area.Kelly's not wrong. If this service sells, it'll be for everything except the AM functionality for most buyers.
I would have to think geofencing would be a real consideration for pro sports teams. And don't forget live sports. They don't do it now, in any of the leagues. MLB and the NFL charge for radio access, but the NBA and NHL are free. No blackouts whatsoever.I would have to think geofencing would be a real consideration for pro sports teams.
What, that primarily angry, white, male, seniors are the primary remaining listeners to AM? Those are the facts. Just because you personally might fall into that category, doesn't mean stating the fact is meant as a pejorative.Christmas Eve. Nice.
And geofencing costs more money.I would have to think geofencing would be a real consideration for pro sports teams.
How about not even being able to charge it????A study on how EV owners cope with decreased range in cold temperatures (spoiler alert: they do):
On the surface, sounds like a malfunction with their Tesla's internal BMS (Battery Management System). How about not even being able to charge it????
First, what Kelly said. How about not even being able to charge it????

A Tesla owner says his car wouldn't charge in freezing temperatures, leaving him stranded on Christmas Eve
Domenick Nati told Insider that the problem has forced him to cancel his Christmas plans as no Ubers are available where he lives in Virginia.news.yahoo.com
Not using your EV or being limited by battery range is NOT "dealing with it". It is a limitation that cannot be successfully addressed unless you tow a trailer with another battery in it. Oh, wait, tow range drops too. By a lot.A study on how EV owners cope with decreased range in cold temperatures (spoiler alert: they do):

EV Drivers Adjust Behavior To Deal With Winter Range Issues: Study
When the cold weather sets in, your EV is going to lose plenty of range. If you're concerned about it to the point that you get range anxiety, there's a fix.insideevs.com
Drivers who properly maintain their ICE cars rarely have a letdown in nasty weather unless said driver causes his/her failure by stupid driving decisions. On the surface, sounds like a malfunction with their Tesla's internal BMS (Battery Management System).
And really, how many dino-powered vehicles suffered from some sort of mechanical or battery failure which stranded their owners during this period of cold weather? I'm sure it was unpleasant for the complainant, but being stranded due to a technical problem with a vehicle is nothing unique to EV's.
VA is one state that has a large variety of weather conditions due to the "beach to the mountains" topography but it's not like living in upper New England or the Plains or upper Midwest states where severe freezing gets well below 0F.First, what Kelly said.
Second, if this were a common problem, the story wouldn't be "radio host in Virginia with a significant social media following couldn't charge his Tesla in the cold"---it would be "Thousands of Tesla owners stranded as cars won't charge in the cold" or "tens of thousands of EV owners of all brands stranded as cars won't charge in the cold."
BIG difference.
Really? So vehicle batteries never fail in when the weather turns cold? I've had it happen myself on a two year old battery. Car wouldn't start after work. I didn't go on line and start bashing the situation like it was SO unique. My brother in law had a cold-related problem with his six month old Mercedes SUV that stranded him. Dealer replaced the computer under warranty.Drivers who properly maintain their ICE cars rarely have a letdown in nasty weather unless said driver causes his/her failure by stupid driving decisions.
Kelly A must be a perfect human being. Anyone not in his demo (whatever that may be) or with a different opinion is an angry white male or a Luddite, or delusional. He seems to feel the need to constantly judge people and call out those with whom he disagrees. What, that primarily angry, white, male, seniors are the primary remaining listeners to AM? Those are the facts. Just because you personally might fall into that category, doesn't mean stating the fact is meant as a pejorative.
Interesting third person diatribe. Who you talking to there Wadio? Don't have the stones to challenge me directly?Kelly A must be a perfect human being. Anyone not in his demo (whatever that may be) or with a different opinion is an angry white male or a Luddite, or delusional. He seems to feel the need to constantly judge people and call out those with whom he disagrees.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines anger as, "A strong feeling of displeasure and usually of antagonism." Do we see any or that in Kelly A's posts?
Racism is defined as, "The belief that different races possess distinct characteristics, abilities, or qualities, especially so as to distinguish them as inferior or superior to one another."
I am not suggesting that Kelly A is an angry racist, just that he's acting like one.
Here's the thing. He's made clear that he has no use for AM talk radio, so he's probably not a regular listener. That's fine. Conversely, I have no use for oldies formats and I don't listen to them. I have my opinions but I'm not driven by some underlying, seething anger to constantly swoop into those forums and sound off with quick generalizations. That would be trolling, IMO.
Kelly A is quick to call posters "Luddites" without knowing their technological backgrounds. He assumes that I am a white male, although he's never met me. His only basis for that assumption is that I've said I listen to talk radio. So since Kelly A's posts are based on assumptions, not facts, we should take anything he says with the proverbial grain of salt.
I did.Not using your EV or being limited by battery range is NOT "dealing with it". It is a limitation that cannot be successfully addressed unless you tow a trailer with another battery in it. Oh, wait, tow range drops too. By a lot.
You could sell your house in MN and move down to FL or you could just keep the old ICE running and ignore all this EV foolishness.
Give someone you know in Buffalo a call and see how their week went.
But AM radio has little over 5% of total listening overall, and nearly all is over age 55 and much is over 65.Here's the thing. He's made clear that he has no use for AM talk radio, so he's probably not a regular listener. That's fine.
(Presuming you refer to "classic hits") Yet just that single format has, in nearly every market, more listening that the whole AM band.Conversely, I have no use for oldies formats and I don't listen to them.
And that is because almost exactly 100% of news/talk radio listening goes to whites. And most of them are male.Kelly A is quick to call posters "Luddites" without knowing their technological backgrounds. He assumes that I am a white male, although he's never met me.
This is really a classic case of "if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck..."His only basis for that assumption is that I've said I listen to talk radio. So since Kelly A's posts are based on assumptions, not facts, we should take anything he says with the proverbial grain of salt.
I've never heard of calling a person to be "white" to be considered "racist".
David, I don't disagree with anything you've said ... and you've said it in a calm, civil way.But AM radio has little over 5% of total listening overall, and nearly all is over age 55 and much is over 65.
Almost all the shares are going to news/talk formats, with a few all news remaining without an FM simulcast and some sports stations still seeking one. The rest is ground clutter.
(Presuming you refer to "classic hits") Yet just that single format has, in nearly every market, more listening that the whole AM band.
(On the chance you are really referring to "oldies") Yet almost no stations remain in that format.
And that is because almost exactly 100% of news/talk radio listening goes to whites. And most of them are male.
This is really a classic case of "if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck..."
There are no statistics to prove otherwise. And I've never heard of calling a person to be "white" to be considered "racist".
