In everyones opinion why is louisville radio so safe why???

I just do not understand it as someone just stated compared to other markets louisville radio sucks. It is way to safe and i would like to know why???I know all the cost cutting has something to do with it but you do not have to drive far to here decent radio. Hardin county with quicksie 98.3 is a very cool hot ac that leans slightly modern that takes some chances.Hardin and etown has always had better radio. From K-105 back in the day and today star 107.3 now rebranded as hits now and quicksie as i stated i just do not get it.

Also drive to cinci they have a decent commercial alt with 94.9 the sound. And Q 102 is pretty good. Drive to nashville and i heard hayseed dixie on commercial radio. They do bluegrass covers of ac/dc songs.

We have not a one liberal talk program we use to have lionel on 1080. We only have 91.9 wfpk for an alternative station this town needs a alternative station to compliment them similar to the sound. WHAS has really gone downhill over the years. I sure would like to listen to joe elliott during the election months instead of savage whom i never listen to out of principle but he is entertaining.

Don't get me wrong it is not all bad here we have some really good talent here like ben davis and mike shannon and tony vanetti and james bickers a few decent station both chr's i like but why aren't they playing cascada and her cover of rascall flats what hurts the most? And wfpk is good but wlrs is just a total embarrassment to this city. You can tell mainline could care less about that station they have not done anything with it with its non talent very green sounding station. As far as music goes the fox and wlrs are similar enough where w e do not need both of them. And 1080 not a very good talk station that morning show is awful and louie i know its doing well but why so safe dig alittle deeper into the 80s and 90s.

But getting back to the point why is louisville radio like this why why why?

Thanks for listening to my rant peeps i appreciate it ;D

HOTP out

I remember when Cascada's "What Hurts the Most" was the New Music Download on DJX. BarlowGirl's "Never Alone" (Top 5 Christian radio hit from two years prior) got a better score than that song.

why is louisville radio so safe why???

Radio board posters in every market always complain that stations in their market are "too safe". Their imaging is too lame or their presentation is too boring or they should be more aggressive and "deeper" with their music. It's the same thing everywhere but they are mostly board-op perspectives and not reflective of the majority of a given market's listeners.

The fact is, ratings are determined by the market's listeners and not posters on radio board (thankfully!!)

What's wrong with "board-op perspectives"? LOL

Because they rarely reflect what a given market's audience is hungry for. After all, isn't the LISTENERS we're looking to please (vs. the critics)?

Just sayin'.

I have lived in plenty of cities and spent time in other cities and for a market louisville's size it shoud be alot better. It has plenty of variety but very stagnant. I blame this more on the city itself then anything. Like when djx did a cool dance mix show on saturday nights i loved it they dropped it cause the ratings showed it was not a success so no i am just stating facts for some odd reason people in this this town like the same old same old and never give anything new a chance or they reject it. Happens time and time again. Phoenix i like los angeles radio i really enjoy cinci i like columbus ohio i like elizabethtown kentucky. So i sight bigger and smaller markets that are better and this town needs some work. Its also pretty sad considering this is coming from a city that states keep louisville weird. Louisville aside from the highlands is as far away from weird as you can get. I need to go back to los angeles permanently!!!

...

It's becuase Lu-ah-vull isn't a big city, never was never will be.

ex: Howard Stern, that dude on 'HAS that was run out of town and no NBA...

Indy, Cinci, Nashville: all have big city attitudes...

"Shock" only works in a city that is big or at least thinks big

Give me a break -- the fact that Lexington radio and even Evansville radio sounds more of a large market than Louisville is sad!

Louisville likes to think it is a big town but its not and as said never will be and it will never think big oh pardon me it will think big but nothing happens with that thinking very often aka the bridges how long have they been talking about that??? Not a place to live if you want to keep on whats hot in music. It is a sad state of affairs here in radio world in louisville ky. The only reason worth living here is the low cost of living relatively speaking.

Once Clear Channel moves out of town maybe things will get better? Cox is a great company, but, they dont care about their Louisville stations- -all 4 make a ton of cash and are jukeboxes, why change it? MainLine is a complete mess -- I don't expect them to stay in town for long.

I would love to see Entercom, South Central or Maverick take up some of the Clear Channel stations -- even Cumulus, which I'm sure will be adding to their Louisville cluster soon!

I'm guessing most regular, normal people don't use the music and radio scene as criteria for where they want to live.

If the only reason he's living in Louisville is the low cost of living and the radio sucks that bad, hotpatrick should do two things: 1. please move and 2. please stop boring us with bitter rants. It's one thing to contribute constructive ideas, quite another for radio people to do nothing but complain about the business they're in. If it's that bad, leave.

I hadn't heard Clear Channel was leaving Louisville- where is this coming from? Thanks.

Isn't Clear Channel to eventually leave everywhere? ::)

hotpatrick...

did you grow up in Louisville?
and while it's none of my business, when did you live in Los Angeles?
what part of LA did you reside in? what kinda work?

Nice to know someone cares romer979fm ;D

Louisville is my hometown but i enjoy la more and lived in la from like 2000 on and moved back here for family reasons. I lived right in hollywood by the kodak center where the academy awards took place. I was in the entertainment business well i did extra work in film and tv and pushing my resume around to radio stations out there. I still have my rejection letter from kroq but my dream job would be indie 1031.
