Radio One got rid of Y100 in 2005 to move 103.9 The Beat to 100.3 and launch Praise 103.9. At the time, Y100 was billing more than 103.9 and 107.9 combined.
Even now, Radio 104.5 consistently outperforms all 3 Radio One stations. If Y100 were still there, it would be performing about the same as Radio 104.5.
I just think that it was the worst business decision for Radio One to get rid of its most successful station just because it isn't an urban format. The Beat/Hot 107.9 hasn't been performing too well no matter which frequency it's been on. Wouldn't they rather have Y100 and its potential 5 share now instead of struggling to get a 2 share with Hot 107.9? Now it's obviously too late to bring Y100 back since there's Radio 104.5, and much of the audience probably abandoned radio for good when Y100 changed formats since that was around the time the iPod started gaining popularity.
As for 104.5, had Y100 stayed, who knows, it could still have been Sunny 104.5 now.
