Inherited approx 641 VHS tapes of Cable Recordings, Might want to sell

I might want to sell my 641 VHS cassette collection that has various programs and commercials from 1981-2001 give or take a few years loaded with commercials, and now defunct networks, soap operas, Larry King, CNN, KTRK, 20 Vision, TBS, a Warner Cable Channel lineup from October 1986, KQUE, KLOL, 93Q, 97rock station adverts, TV and cable station bumpers, old KTRK 13 news, Texas Cable Network, Lifetime Medical Television.

If I did such thing, could I one day get $2 million dollars for the whole set?

Most of these tapes are in good condition.

I used to use these to upload old school commercials on my YouTube Channel.

I would be glad to sell ALL of these to the BMP Radio trust (the lenders), to purchase 98.9 and I am not kidding on this one.

I guess it could be done.

I could throw in all of my Type IV Metal Bias Cassette tapes including 1 TDK MA-XG.

Do these have value? I have Donahue with guest Donald Trump! A couple of Lyndon LaRouche show from Houston's Public Access. I have the Who Killed JFK where the viewers would call a 1900 number to decide if the Warren Commission should stand, also a 10 second announcement of Ronald Reagan's War on Drugs aired from the Oval Office back in 1987.

And the Sea World Grand Opening with Bob Saget and a host of others from 1987!!!

The Improv with the lady who plays Blanche from the Golden Girls (1991)

Don't know if you could sell ANY of these--the copyright owners of the intellectual property of the program material might have a real problem with it.

Not an expert but there are the copy write issues and really just don't see the value. Maybe you could donate them to a broadcast museum and use the write off.

Buying a radio station off of proceeds from selling VHS tapes?

You might get enough to buy a spot on a non-drive-time shift, if you're lucky.

$2 mil?? Really? I'm afraid you'd do better getting with the Paley Center or the Museum of Broadcast Communications.

You may want to just keep them until they stop making VHS blank tapes. At that time they may be of value to someone who is a VHSphile and wants blank tape.

Oh, and they may watch what's on them before (if) they reuse them. :)

BTW do they still make NAB carts? ;D

I am sure someone could draft up a contract that requires them to pay any royalty fees if such should arise. Some might let them use them at no cost, others might want a mariginal fee for their works.

I would have the assistance of a good intelluctual property rights attorney to draft such contract, and good broker to finalize such sale. If such offer were made.

I don't know about NAB carts, as I don't own any.

I guess I will have to hold on to them for a couple of more years if that is the case.

Then they or their lawyers must be living in the aisles of every thrift store in America...

It is a debate of what considers to be an Unauthorized recording or duplication.

If I were to unload my tapes like this I am sure the contract would be the size of the new health care law, with all those releases to approve. Maybe smaller do to mergers and stuff. Viacom would have to approve, so would Time Warner, and Universal NBC.
