Inland Empire ratings out, and I have questions

The ratings for Riverside/San Bernardino were released yesterday, acording to Taylor on Radio-info. They can be found by going to the radio-info ratings page. But, for those of you who are curious, and can’t wait until your brouser loads the page, the top 5 included KFI (from LA), KGGI, KQRB, KOLA, and KFRG.

Now, as an outsider here, I try to watch this market (and all markets around the LA area) closely. However, there are some stations listed here that I’ve never heard of, or am confused about. I wasn’t able to get my questions answered by going to radiostationworld.com, so I thought maybe someone here could clear things up for me, please?

Okay. There’s a station in the listing (9 [tied]) called KSCA-FM. I’ve never heard of that station, and I can’t find it in radiostationworld anywhere. Where is it out of, and what format is it running?

Next, there are 2 stations that have similar calls listed here: KTWV (16 [tie]), and KWVE (19.) Now, I believe that KTWV is the Smooth Jazzer from LA. Am I right? If that’s right, then, what’s KWVE. Is that the Smooth Jazz station out of Temecula at 94.5? Radiostationworld lists that station’s calls as KMYT. If that is not correct, then, what IS KWVE. I can’t find that call sign listed. Where are they from, and, of course, what’s their format?

KSCA is a regional Mexican station at 101.9 out of Los Angeles. It's always up there in the ratings for the LA market. KWVE, I believe, is referring to 107.9 FM out of San Clemente. It is a Christian station. I'm surprised they show up in the I.E. ratings, since their signal is not too great out there.

You ight be ablt to do a lot better by going to:

www.radio-locator.com

and entering the call letters. Or just seach on San Bernadino and click on each of the stations. Will also show a approximate coverage map as well.

KWVE (in San Clemente) shows up on the LA book as well. The station gets reasonable ocverage in the IE because of the transmitter location on the LA/Riverside County line at 5700 feet on Santiago Peak.

Also note that the San Jacinto station (with nearly no power) shows up decently in the ratings.

The red inner contour, reduced by about 20%, is where rated listenership will happen, if anywhere.

KWVE (in San Clemente) shows up on the LA book as well.

That is because San Clemente is in the LA market.

Also note that the San Jacinto station (with nearly no power) shows up decently in the ratings.

It's 680 watts at 1400 feet and puts a usable signal over nearly all the market.

70% of listening in the IE market is to out of market stations, mostly LA.

That is Glendale's KSCA, Regional Mexican. It's been in the top couple of stations in LA for 11 years and change.

Like others, I suggest you try radio-locator.com and abandon a site that does not include what is one of the 5 or 6 most listened to stations in the US.

KWVE is via Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and predominantly features pastors Chuck Smith from the OC and Greg Laurie from the IE, hence their pattern...it is not a coincidence.

The pattern (and an application for non-DA operation is pending) has nothing to do with the location of specific churches. The reduction on 310 degrees is intended to reduce radiation for reasons of protection to other stations. It was bought in 1985 from a secular broadcaster by Calvary Chapel... meaning Calvary is the owner, not a "via" whatever that means. Chuck Smith is the president of Calvary.

Looks like everyone covered the KTWV and KWVE question. I know with similar calls it sometimes gets confusing ??? Even the one other station you referenced KMYT. I know that KMYT used to simulcast KMYI in San Diego (MY 94.1) but I guess they are Smooth Jazz now and San Diego's MY 94.1 is now Star 94.1. More simlilar calls.

Thank you, also, for the reccomendation of radio-locator. I'll have to try it. Because I'm blind, I use a talking software program to go on the internet, read email, and interact on this board. I'll have to see how well radio-locator works with that software. If it's a better site, and all works well, I will probably use that site to look up stations from now on. So thank you.

Because I'm blind, I use a talking software program to go on the internet, read email, and interact on this board. I'll have to see how well radio-locator works with that software.

I'm sure I speak for many on these boards in saying that we'd be pleased to find any radio information that you need from sites that may not be compliant with your software. Just post and I'm sure you will get what you need.

Thank you, DavidEduardo. I did indeed visit radio-locator, and, unfortunatly, it doesn't work well with the Jaws talking software, so I'm sure that if I can't find a California station on radiostationworld, I'll probably ask the California board posters here for help. I am very interested in California radio (especially the LA area.) I listen to some Inland Empire radio stations online, and I find them to be very enjoyable. I find Southern California radio to be more interesting, inovative, and engaging than the radio here in upstate New York state.
