My local Radio Shack is clearing out their tiny portable HD radio receivers that plug into an Apple iPhone or iTouch. Only $9.97, cheapest HD radio ever. There was a long line of people extending out the door waiting to buy one at that price (not! ).
I tried one out. It is not as sensitive as the Insignia portable, and drains the iPhone battery rather quickly. But the Apple display is way easier to read for song titles etc. than the one on the Insignia.
It prominently features iTunes tagging, like several other HD radios. Does anyone ever use that feature on their HD receiver?
I don't even have any iWhatever products that could let me take advantage of the tagging. They shouldn't have hitched their horse to such a closed system that no one else can use.
While listening to "Rise-Up Country" with John Ritter on WQYK, I am still hearing the HD spots and Best Buy offering different HD radios and boomboxes. Are these just old? Or is there something else going on? I haven't noticed the spots outside of the program but that doesn't mean they aren't running. It just means my anal retentiveness is acting up.
I listen to the program every Sunday morning and the spots have been airing each week.
John runs a live program from 6-8a. 8-10a is the National program. I'm hearing the spots in both programs.
WQYK is in HD along with using an HD-2 and HD-3.
