Interesting bit of DJ banter on the X just now. . .

"Not too many commercials today, that's bad for us, but I guess it's good for you."

Did the move put that much of a dent in the billing? Hopefully, it will come back with time. It'd be nice if the local energy it once had came back, too. Otherwise, should we just count the days until it becomes something else (JOX-FM would be my pick. Seems like a lot of other Southern markets are trying the FM sports talk.)

The X suXXXXXX!

The station would rebound, if and only if they would fix their format. I'm disgusted with the same 25 songs that are being played OVER and OVER and OVER. I'm a rock/metal fan, but if I hear NIN - "Bite the Hand That Feeds You" another 10 times within a 15 minute period I'm going to snap.

For the most part, the music simply sucks and is too repetitious!

COYOTE J should be the station's PD, he's the ONLY one that plays good tunes!<P ID="signature">______________

The X needs to decide if they are going to be active rock or an alternative rock outlet. They seem to reach active one daypart and alternative the next, using the same 50 songs, and it just aint' working for anyone. Right now, they don't have an identity. I want them to be successful as it would be shameful for a city the size of B'ham to be a failure as a rock market.

I'd tag "Mr. Brightside" with the Song-I-Most-Want-Them-To-Mysteriously-Lose title myself. Not that you can get away from either of them on any modern rock station, though. 92J at JSU and Buzz 105.3 in Atlanta play the holy crap out of them too, but at least the songs in between those infinite spins have more variety.

And they basically shy away from anything that'd be remotely described as "metal" now. I can remember them playing Slayer and Maiden on occasion, but now the X is 100% white-hat frat rock . . .

I second that. He knows radio, knows rock, and knows the area better than anyone left at the station, most likely.

Either that or bring Susan Groves back. She didn't get the credit she deserved during her tenure. Oh, well, hindsight is 20/20.

I don't know if they've ever really had the sort of coherent identity you're thinking about. They've pretty much always been heavily dayparted. The difference between pre-2005 and now was that it had gobs of personality to make those transitions work. Everyone on the air seemed enthusiastic and knowledgeable about what they were playing. That energy is all but gone. It was already waning a bit before the move, but the move killed them.

I'd almost prefer a flip at this point. Perhaps Cox or CC would put something better or at least differently mediocre out there if the hole was open.

X or EX-listeners?

Yeah, something has to change and change fast. I've pretty much given up on Citadel Broadcasting and The X. Soon, I think I will consider myeslf an "eX"-listener! I hope that another station developes soon, maybe one that sound like The X before they lost their "Dick" Broadcasting.

As for Beaner and Ken, I've have always been a huge supporter of theirs. I even had a fan website when they left the first time. But now, I can' listen to them. You get about 2 minutes of the show followed by promos, a few commercials (what they can sell, anyway) and 8 minutes of crappy-sappy overplayed tunes.

... add another to the OVERPLAYED list: Weezer - "Beverly Hills"<P ID="signature">______________

Well Reg's show plays good tunes and so does the Vintage Vault on Saturday mornings. Have you noticed since the new PD took over though the Vintage Vault is a little more mainstream? I hear tunes on there now that I hear the rest of the day on the X. Isn't the purpose of the specialty show is to play songs you don't normally hear the rest of the day? Call me crazy but that is what I think it should be.

Oh by the way, if I hear Weezer=Beverly Hills one more time I am going to go postal.

Consider yourself lucky, Birmham has NOTHING! You will hear the same crappy songs on Citadel's alternative, soft rock (not even close to rock), and classic rock (agin, just old but not rock) stations. RADIO IS DEAD!<P ID="signature">______________

That's it, though. All the other specialty shows they've had over the years are gone, and the songs on them don't end up in the main rotation anymore like they once did. Unless it works the other way around and they cram songs they've already been playing all the time onto the specialty shows, that is.

Have you noticed since the new

Yeah, that was the point originally . . .
