"Internet radio reaches a crescendo" - watch out HD Radio !

IBOCROCKS WROTE: "So, yeah, pay all that extra money a month, then risk losing your cell phone account."

In my car or while taking a walk, I have been streaming daily at 24 or 32kbps for well over a year without any problems from Verizon Wireless. The legaleze is there to keep keople from streaming at 128kbps and above all day long. VZW is likely to drop the legaleze soon. Sprint has already done so for their EV-DO service.

Until they do, it's still there, and legaleze or not, they've disconnected people for it.

Bzzzzzzzt. This time you supplied the wrong answer, my friend.

He can listen to whatever he wants when on the Wi-Fi service.

And the cellphone companies are falling over themselves to stream audio as fast as they can sign the agreements.

He sure can, as long as he's near a Wifi hot spot!

You think you don't have a choice with terrestrial radio? Just wait until you see the limited choices you'll get from the cellco's - they'l make sure you can only listen to what their "partners" will provide!

Perhaps. But - other than point out the fact that my home network only covers my house (actually, about three houses away and down to the beach) -

- you haven't addressed the point that XM, SIRIUS, Ipod and WiFi streaming is all very accessible, very cheap, in pocket radios at home.

- with much, much more variety

- and no commericals

[EDIT]

[EDIT-personal attacks]

Quoting IBOCRocks: "And when your not 30 feet from your house, all those gadgets are great, right?"

And, you are stuck next to a table-top Receptor HD, with lousy reception, lousy terrestrial radio, and a 7-foot dipole antenna.

And, WiMax will eventually enable WiFi streaming everywhere, starting in 2008. :)

"iPods winning the Car Wars"

More Automakers to offer Ipods Buyers of Audi, Volkswagen and Honda cars will soon have an Apple on their option menu, according to the makers of the ubiquitous Ipod audio player. Speaking at a recent press event in San Francisco, Apple CEO Steve Jobs boasted that the company's Ipod player will become available as a factory option in about 30 percent of all 2006 car models available to consumers in the United States. Audi, Volkswagen and Honda will join 15 other auto manufacturers already supporting the option. In exchange for the added sticker price, new car buyers will enjoy the convenience of having their Ipods fully integrated with the car audio system, with access jacks mounted in a glove box or center console. Honda and its Acura division even plan to offer a text and speech interface to allow drivers to manage playlists while operating the vehicle. Jobs estimates that about five million cars will be sold with the Ipod option in the coming model year. iPods produce no interference to present analog broadcasting. It's all about more choices, not less.
