...is how they're going about it a good idea? Or does the internet "debut" mute the "taking the market by surprise" factor and the "wow a new radio station" factor? Is anybody talking about jackokc.com (outside of the type of people who'd post on radio-info.com)? Is the public seeing the billboards? (I've still only seen one). Is the public listening to the stream, telling friends, emailing in comments or calling the comment line? And when in the world is the ETA for 97.3? They're still running the "coming soon" sweepers...
If nothing else, I really had a lot of TSL this most-recent time I listened. Interestingly, there was definitely NOT a 90s lean, like there has been when I'd listened before; I wonder if the corporate playlist is being tweaked? I wouldn't guess that it's now being locally programmed yet, because going into and out of stopsets is still choppy, indicating that they're overlaying the national feed still. I also notice sometimes that consecutive elements are louder than the previous, as if one pot is hotter than the other; but it happens for both spots and songs, and you would assume the feed is coming through one pot. And speaking of stopsets, wow there're a lot! You normally don't see that on a new station; but of course, this feed is being used by stations that have been on the air for years, so it doesn't accomodate debuts. And of course, Tyler will need to run as many spots as possible to make the low-powered frequency viable. As for the stream, unlike last time it was smooth as silk this time--no hiccups at all for almost three hours.
"Love My Way" Psychedelic Furs
"Take Me To The River" Talking Heads
"Stacy's Mom" Foutains Of Wayne
"Tall Cool One" Robert Plant
"Stand" R.E.M.
"Praise You" Fatboy Slim
"Honky Tonk Women" The Rolling Stones
"One Thing Leads To Another" The Fixx
"Only Happy When It Rains" Garbage
"Born To Run" Bruce Springsteen
"She's So High" Tal Bachman
"On The Loose" Saga
"Addicted To Love" Robert Palmer
"Superman" Five For Fighting
"Watching The Wheels" John Lennon
"Takin' It To The Streets" The Doobie Brothers
"Sweet Child O' Mine" Guns N' Roses
"I Go Blind" Hootie And The Blowfish
"Vacation" The Go-Gos
"Word Up" Cameo
"Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" Green Day
"Cryin'" Aerosmith
"Don't Stop" Fleetwood Mac
"Daughter" Pearl Jam
"Super Freak" Rick James
"Dance The Night Away" Van Halen
"The Freshman" The Verve Pipe
"Wanted Dead Or Alive" Bon Jovi
"King Of Pain" The Police
"Lightning Crashes" Live
"Dirty White Boy" Foreigner
And I still wish they'd play more pop and R&B; Cameo and Rick James stand out like a sore thumb. I'm definitely not lobbying for Britney and Christina or anything; but there is a middle ground which is not being stepped upon. But then again, this is the "playing what we want" format, not the "we play anything" format.
