Is there anything new or exciting happening radiowise in Knoxville? It has been at least a month since anything has been posted on this board concerning radio in Knoxville. Anything new to report? How is the Phil Show doing now that it has been on for about six weeks? Has 93.1 the Point or Oldies 95.7 & 106.7 changed formats as the rumors that they would before the end of summer? How is the River doing on their new signal of 98.7? Is everyone still as dissatisfied with WIVK as they were in May and June? Why nothing new to report in Knoxville at all?

It's Knoxville, nothing interesting ever happens.

The Phil Show seems to be doing well, he's never hurting for callers, it seems, there is always a wait to get on. He's been doing alot of hurricane relief stuff lately.

No, Alot of people said it was definitely going to happen on both sides in July, but Oldies seems to be adding people lately, so I'm not sure. One thing that you might keep in mind is that both times SS killed the Mix format on 95.7 and 106.7, it was around this time of the year. I'm not sure Journal know what to do with the Point. Alot of change from trend to trend.

Just a hunch, but that station sells okay because the local people that make the buying decisions enjoy listening to the station. Which begs the question, when you go fishing do you use bait you like to eat or bait the fish you're trying to catch like to eat?

The question would be, will it continue to sell. It could be that the buyers like the station and their customers constitute the small audience that the River is drawing.

The question would be, will it continue to sell. It could be that the buyers like the station and their customers constitute the small audience that the River is drawing.
I, too, have doubts about Oldies changing formats. Recently, like a couple of weeks ago, Oldies started broadcasting their station over the internet as well as on the air. I've also noticed more "old" oldies being played as well as more stuff from the 70's being added too. In my opinion, that station is sounding right now the best it's ever sounded. I'm with the rest of you - WE NEED SOMETHING TO HAPPEN SOMEWHERE so we can have something to talk about. Hey, we could start making stuff up..............................
Yeah, it's interesting that SCC hasn't flipped Oldies to Jack
after their rapid climb to #1 25+ (#3 12+) in Nashville. That,
I expected would be a no brainer. Unless that think it'll destroy
Classic Rock - or - A/C, which it has affected in Nashville.
Stealing from themselves in not generally something SCC does.
They know what they are doing better than the big boys, most of
the time.

The way South Central's stations are set up here in Knoxville, the Jack format would take alot away from thier bread winners B-97 and WIMZ. I'd like to know what the average TSL was for Jack stations across the country. I mean, after the novelty of "what's next" wears off, it seems like people would tune out when a song they had no desire to hear comes on. Maybe I'm wrong here, but it just seems that would be a problem with the format.

I would expect that TSL for these stations would be HIGHER for that reason...people are burned out on the same 400 songs played over and over.
Research may indicate preferences for songs, but the gut says that with iPods and other ways of listening to music proliferating, the audience is not being served by corporate radio as it exists today.
I'm glad that stations are trying "Jack." At least these stations will go down swinging by bringing a breath of fresh air to the stale wasteland of the airwaves.

Easy Listening #7 in Knoxville
Something I find interesting is that, when comparing non-commercial ratings to commercial ratings, it seems that WOEZ/88.3, an 'old-school' Beautiful Music/Easy Listening station would actually be tied at #7, with the alternative station on 94.3. Cool to see that format still doing so well in 2005, since our industry considered it a dead format 20 years ago.
