Is Classic Hits 92.9 Sounded A Lot Better Than the Return of WCBS-FM?

If you look in the New York market, CBS-FM will return tomorrow to do the same thing that WBPM is doing. If you are in Newburgh, Peekskill or any other town in the lower Hudson Valley, WCBS-FM is going to be a classic hits station. Be patient. :)

Only the're going to do it professionally and actually have a bit of research and talent in their station.

LMFAO!!! :D

Not to worry, kids...CBS-FM's launch was mindblowing...they started at 12:45 with Journey's "don't stop believing" cut short followed by the most professionally produced montage I have ever heard. Started with 1964; jingles, news clips, music clips from each year, and went to 1980....I got it clear as a bell in Hopeless junction on my car radio. Nah not to worry Mr. Turnip.... you are no competition...still a small frog in a big pond. I hope the new CBS-FM PD gives you credit for inventing the classic hits format....

fire away

Warm...we all know how much you can't stand Mr.TURNER...that's T-U-R-N-E-R in case you've forgotten how to spell. Zaso...don't know where you came from, but I find it interesting how much this one individual bothers you two sooo much. Is it because he actually works in radio and makes a living off it? Those who can't do it I guess have to post trash on board like this. If you dislike him sooo much, why don't you actually identify yourself to him by picking up the phone and talking to him or sending him a personal email.

Let me answer a few questions for you. Mr. Turner NEVER claimed to have 'invented' the format. The powers that be at Pamal asked him to put ideas together for what to do with 92.9. What you don't know is some of those ideas came from his years of Oldies, also growing up listening to WLIR and some inspiration came from stations he heard across the country. And as far as being Independent...Pamal suits do not micro-manage and actually THEY encouraged him to stress independent radio as they allow the programming to be done at the local level.

It's easy to sit there behind your computer screen names and go off on a local radio professional...his paycheck does in fact come from a radio station as I am sure yours do not. I know him very well and I'm sure he would welcome the chance to answer a personal email.

Thanks, Randy, glad you came by to put in your $.02. Don't forget what we post here is opinion. I have worked in Hudson Valley radio broadcasting for 20 years. Couldn't earn a living wage off what they pay around here so I'm now a part timer with a real job. The spring book will tell how good your format and delivery is.... :D

waiting for the next volley from Mr. Turnip ???

Well, that explains your dislike of him...he probably thought your tape wasn't worthy of airtime.

And for the LAST time WARM...I am NOT Randy. Get it? Or are you getting as bad as Disney?

Yeah like I would take his opinion of my demo tape seriously....he would probably reject it because I sounded better tham him and he didn't want me to make him look bad by hiring me....for not being Randy Turnip you can respond in his defense awfull quickly ???

incoming :-X

For having a REAL job, you have an awful lot of time on your hands to post on this board bashing people who actually work in radio.

I have two tips for you:

1) If you think you are sooo good, than send your tape to Mr. Turner. Identify yourself. Tell him HOW GREAT you really are and even though you bash him every chance you get, you think you can do his job better than he can.
2) Spell check every now and then...you seem less ignorant when you spell things correctly.

ARE YOU Randy Turner, talking in 3rd person about yourself???? LMFAO!!!!!!!!

YEEEEEPPPPP...Whenever someone on this board has nothing useful to say or has no comeback he resorts to bashing for spell check or bad grammar. Enuff bickering.....I have no ill will for 92.9 or anyone else; I enjoy what I do and hope others do too. I'll be looking to see how 92.9 did in the spring book...I'm sure it took a lot of hard work to pull it off starting from the ground up with a new station and probably not enough $$$ :D

Cheers :)

In my experience (25-years in broadcasting from small market to network/radio & TV), when a PD implements a format on a station, s/he has every right to claim the credit depending on its results. Lord knows s/he'll take the blame if things don't go well. I've never heard Randy Turner claim to do anything but implement the new format at 92.9. What's wrong with that? As far as WBPM is concerned, he did introduce the format.

From what I know, the guy busts his hump on over a half-dozen stations, dealing with the difficult realities that modern radio presents us all.

Besides, anyone who puts a personality-driven format on the air these days should be applauded, not derided. Unless one prefers card-reading automatons.

Like him or not personally, give the guy some credit professionally. He's a pro.

My two cents, and I'm expecting change...

Well, after listening to CBS the past few days, it's clear they came back to kick some ass. Wow, what a great sound, makes WBPM seem impotent in comparison. Better playlist, legendary dj's (it was great listeng to Pat St John this morning!) much better and tighter production. In all fairness, BPM is a rinky dink signal that about 40 people can actually hear, so I guess they do the best they can.
JMHO of course ;)

New York City FM stations don't target the Mid-Hudson Valley -- you run into signal problems when you get to Exit 16 on the Thruway. WBPM is licensed to Saugerties, which means 92.9 targets Kingston, Greene County and northern Dutchess County.

"Better playlist" = soundtrack songs, AOR cuts and burned-to-a-crisp oldies.

"Legendary DJs" = air talent that's coming to 101.1 to retire.

WBPM is also a 5k watt = who gives a f.u.c.k

Seriously, CBS sounds great, IMO

Back to a previous thread within this thread.

Here's a quote from Randy Turner's bio on the WBPM website:
"Greetings, neighbors, I’m Randy Turner – a lot of people call me “The Ran-Man”. I’m proud to say that I’ve had a career in radio for over 20 years.... Probably the biggest highlight of my career has been creating the format for Classic Hits 92.9 WBPM. "

By the way, does anyone really think a lot of people call him "THE Ran-Man," as in, "Good afternoon, THE Ran-Man, please play the classic hit, 'Snoopy vs. The Red Baron' for me."
