Is Cumulus planning to flip any other news/talk stations into semi-News like KGO

Well I'm wondering how many Cumulus stations would go in this direction besides KGO. Well this means putting semi-News stations in areas where Merlin and CBS don't have all-news stations yet and if the market permits this to occur.

I don't think "Semi-News" is a format that Cumulus is looking to install on other stations. I think it only exists at KGO because of the noncut status of Ronn Owens.

That's too bad, because I've come up with their slogan : "KGO 810 - Semi -News, Some of the Time..."

LOL, Llew!

No...in fact, KABC is reshuffling now...and it's staying talk...just making room for Geraldo Rivera.

They've already been firing people here and there. Clear Channel & Cumulus are the worst things to ever happen to the Radio. They are Major Scum.

One could think that, or one could look at the state of broadcasting today. Thirty years ago stations competed for advertising and for audience with radio, TV, and print. Today the Internet can offer everything a radio station can offer, but in better variety. The only place where terrestrial radio excels is local content. But that's not lost on Clear Channel or on Cumulus, which still continue to do live and local programming during the dayparts that matter, which are basically 6am to 7pm. After 7pm the audience drops off a cliff and it's usually not worth the expense of having live people on duty then.

Cumulus perhaps...if you consider KNBR, KFOG, and KSAN, there is a lot of live and local programming between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM. But not so with Clear Channel...their talk shows are not local., unless I've missed something new. Virtually all programming on their music stations is voice-tracked outside of morning drive.

The big Clear Channel AM's are either all-local (WLW, Cincinnati) or mostly so (KFI, Los Angeles). But it's true, the music stations have less and less local programming as time goes by. Basically, only those local DJ's who can stay in the top 3 in their target demographic can keep their jobs.

I didn't realize that Geraldo Rivera was being syndicated? I thought he was hired for WABC-770 New York only?

Airing on two co-owned stations is not syndication.

My outsider knowledge is that Geraldo is being hired for WABC only. The morning shuffle at KABC is that Doug McIntyre is ditching the Red Eye Radio overnight program and returning to KABC as the morning guy effective January 3, 2012.

Hmm. Maybe. I'm hearing Doug 5 AM-9, John Phillips for a single hour at 9, and tape-delayed Geraldo from 10 AM-1PM.

And when Ronn Owens' contract runs out or gets down to a buyout number Cumulus can live with, Geraldo's show is the right length in the right daypart, should KGO decide it really can't keep the news wheel spinning all day long.

If they're smart, Cumulus structured the Geraldo deal so that whatever he's getting paid allows them to put him on their major market stations, making it expense-neutral for KABC and KGO.

Just announced ... Larry Elder moving to PM Drive. Doug & Teri 6-9. Delayed Geraldo 10 to noon. Phillips 9-10. Somehow, I hear Geraldo coming to KSFO 560 San Francisco either full time or "Best of" on weekends.

Some folks are wondering if Cumulus made the right moves at KGO? the answer in my opinion is anytime you loose advertisers the answer is easy.......you made a mistake, will that change matters? I doubt it.

That depends on whether you can replace them with new advertisers who will pay the same or more. If not, then you've made a mistake.
