Fox Sports got a lucky break.
ESPN radio was supposed to hog all the best sports air time on all the best rated sports radio stations in Canada.

However, recently, rates for rights to air ESPN went sky high, so various sports stations across Canada made the switch to Fox sports to save money...

this topic is getting views we need more posts ...

is the programing getting the job done for canadaian listeners?
US listeners think it is to LA ?
I can only guess what Canadains think

I can only speculate on the situation here in Ottawa, and to a lesser extent, Montreal. Our sports station, the team 1200, used to carry Fox sports radio at night and weekends. Lately it's been all ESPN outside of local programming. Montreal's team 990 has always carried ESPN when not running local programming since I first heard the station back in Late 2005.

THe switch back to ESPN in Ottawa makes good sense since it was the former CHUM Group that supported the idea of a switch to FOX sports radio...but now that Team 1200 has been sold to CTV inc...TSN is also with CTV, and they use ESPN for a lot of things...perhaps they got a tv/radio deal for ESPN sports?

and as of a couple of nights ago, Fox is back in Ottawa on 1200 AM. It could have been that fox was unavailable for a time being for them, contract issues, or equipment glitch. At least it wasn't dead air overnights. I have actually heard 1200 overnights being played on a few taxi cab radios....so someone is listening to fo0tball talk besides me.

Ok, you may be correct.

It seems like CFGO can't make up it's mind...is it carrying Fox, or is it carrying ESPN? It seems MOST of the time now it's ESPN with Fox being on only once in a while. I haven't bothered placing any phone calls or checking out the website because I honestly don't have a preference for one or the other. Overnights are the only time I'll bother tuning in, as it's the only time I can hear talk about something other than Sens or 67's hockey. For sports talk radio I'm more likely to tune into CKGM 990 in Montreal during the day (until they start talking hockey) because you'll at least hear other sports brought up. From now on I'll have to listen to WFAN 660 for monday night fo0tball on my way home from work.

No. Again, remember, on the TV side, ESPN sports is covered on TSN here, and the FOX sports radio contract was most likely drawn up BEFORE the sale to CTV inc (owners of TSN television).

They were most likely going to fade out Fox sports and replace it with ESPN anyway...

Fox sports could say "the laughable leafs" and Fan 590 (Rogers owned) in Toronto would still carry them over ESPN because they are angry with the ever increasing costs of airing ESPN at the moment.

yes very interesting who owns who ...

i hear the contect factory sold tony bruno and dan patrick (fox)
