Is Don Martin KILLING Fox Sports Radio

KLAC bailed on PMS tonight, mid-show, to carry the Monday Night Football game. I believe that's the 1st time they've done this (this year).

MNF would normally be on Progressive Sports 1150...which is airing the Kings game tonight (paid programming). So LA doesn't hear PMS so Don can clear MNF and get the network compensation.

What is this Lanching Pad show/formate?

is that myers and harman and MARTIN ????

This has Martins finger prints all over it
even Tony Bruno has to be laughing at this one

Hartman is not happy about this new Fox show idea ...

rumor is Bruno will replace him

I really like Hartman and have followed the 'loose cannons' for years. He sounds like he's trying really hard to make this "launching pad" idea work, and even myers (who I can't stand) seems confused by it all. Hartman is guy who wants to talk local sports only and was good at it (hence the 'cannons' success for years). Spending an hours talking about The Cowboys, Phillies, or Georgia football has to be driving him crazy.

It's unbelievable that KSPN talks more local sports the KLAC. Strange days indeed.

From the same genius who gave us "Mancow" and "Roggin and Simers (x2)" and now the ill advised and painful to listen to duos of "Diarrhea of the mouth Hartman and (yawn) Myers" followed by "PETROS (CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW) and Money", Don (thank goodness my wife has a clue how to program or I'd be workiing at Dairy Queen) Martin is at it again. Of course, you can't make a national show sound local or make a local station sound vanilla enough to fit in anywhere without alienating...everybody - but leave it to DM. Now without any team "hook", the numbers are already starting to crater. Tough being in the big time, eh?

You guys are really giving Martin too much credit. Do you think he really has the power to make these moves on his own? I'm thinking that a lot of this is dictated to him from someone higher up anyway...

I never criticized DM directly. I've only questioned the direction of the station & the decision to go to a national format (and keeping Myers employed). I imagine the whole FSR thing had to come from Clear Channel management above DM. Whoever thought the way to combat KSPN getting the Laker's rights was to bail on local talk & go national needs to have their head examined.

Check this out.

Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton, who was first victim in Don Martin purge at 570-KLAC, is doing afternoon drive on XX-1090 Sportsradio out of San Diego, afternoons 3 to 7pm..

The XX signal is 50,000 watts, just like the legendary XTRA 690 used to be, and is strong in Los Angeles and Orange County.

Real sportstalk competition now for listeners who want to talk real sports.

"Kearny Mesa, WHERE ARE YOUUUUU? We got a line open people, this is your show. TAKE IT OVER!"

It's great to hear The Franchise again. I like PMS too but Franchise is nuts and bolts solid sportstalk and participation. Since he's local again to San Diego on a border blaster like XEPRS we can be sure he'll ask us to "Show me your lightning bolt!" I was listening to him today blowing off some kook and lambasting after he hung up on him saying, "Is a guy that got released early from a Workers Release Program going to be my best call tonight? Let's light 'em up San Diego!"

I love Lee's shtick and he knows his sports. 1090 was very smart to bring him into the fold.

The problem is that the XX signal is significantly impacted by the spill over hash from blow torch KNX 1070 here in LA. It makes the XX 1090 signal somewhat annoying to listen to in the LA Basin. Unlike XTRA Sports 690 that did not have spill over hash to deal with in its day.

Bruce Jacobs and Lincoln Kennedy weekends are great. Should move them during the week. Is Jacobs the fill in guy too? Hear him all over the place. Like him.

Interesting. I'll def check him out. Hacksaw may be a relic in the current sports talk world, but he's so serious, he cracks me up. I def miss him on the weekends on 570. I thought that was the perfect spot for his type of show.

RE 'Bruce Jacobs': he is a fox sports fill-in, but I think he has a local show in Phoenix.

At least Mike & Mike & Colin Cowherd of ESPN radio are not fixated on a single market's teams; they're very good at covering everybody.

Live & local is a great matra to believe in and operate under, but it does cost a lot of $$$$, and most of these conglomerates are deep in red ink.

Colin Cowherd has a huge Laker-USC fixation. Colin is why I listen to Fox Sports,Colin is too arrogant.

Cowherd pretty much comes across as your typical bandwagon sports fan...he gravitates to the most popular teams out there. He also has this fixation on Tom Brady. I watch that Sportsnation show he does with Michelle Beadle on ESPN2...if it wasn't for her, I would never bother watching a second.

Someone has to get the boot. My guess is Smith either replaces Myers (keeps hartman) or takes the afternoon spot (moving PMS to Bruno's spot, Bruno then goes to late night, and JT goes to weekends). Regardless, he has to fit somewhere:

Stephen A., back on the radio ... however ...

Stephen A. Smith.jpgFox Sports Radio, which just announced the signing of Stephen A. Smith as a host for its network lineup, has no place to put him. Yet.

The former ESPN Radio voice who has recently regained his spot as a Philadelphia Inquirer columnist will join the Fox Radio Net as a host starting Jan. 4. But there are no further details.
