Is Don Martin KILLING Fox Sports Radio

Looks like the results are in.

Someone has to get the boot. My guess is Smith either replaces Myers (keeps hartman) or takes the afternoon spot (moving PMS to Bruno's spot, Bruno then goes to late night, and JT goes to weekends). Regardless, he has to fit somewhere:

Stephen A., back on the radio ... however ...

Stephen A. Smith.jpgFox Sports Radio, which just announced the signing of Stephen A. Smith as a host for its network lineup, has no place to put him. Yet.

The former ESPN Radio voice who has recently regained his spot as a Philadelphia Inquirer columnist will join the Fox Radio Net as a host starting Jan. 4. But there are no further details.

Since Smith is a regular fill-in for The Steve Harvey Morning Show, we doubt there's any way he'd jump into an AM spot, leading into the Jim Rome Show (9 a.m. to noon), also because the Dan Patrick Show (6 to 9 a.m.) has established a pretty solid base, coming from The Content Factory and being packaged in many markets -- including KLAC-AM 570 -- as a one-two combo.

FSR has Steve Hartman and Chris Myers in the noon to 4 p.m. spot, and Petros Papadakis and Matt "Money" Smith in the 4-to-7 p.m. spot. That's the jump into the night with with the recently re-established Tony Bruno Show (7 to 10 p.m.), which pushed J.T. The Brick (10 p.m. to 1 a.m.) even further into the darkness.

So where does Stephen A. fit?

Qute frankly, and this is pure seat-of-the-trousers speculation, that noon to 4 p.m. spot, where Smith did most of his radio work back in his ESPN days could use the biggest boost in the FSR lineup.

"I can't begin to convey how excited I am to be with Fox Sports Radio," Smith said in a release. "I've thoroughly missed being on the airwaves expressing myself, my thoughts and my passions. I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to the folks at Fox Sports Radio for this tremendous opportunity. I'm hyped, psyched and ready to go. Buckle up and let's get this party started."

Don Martin, the Fox Sports Radio VP/GM based in L.A., adds: "His broadcast experience and industry connections, combined with his tell-it-like-it-is style, will make a great addition to the top-quality, sports entertainment programming we deliver to our audience."

Not even close.

Stephen A. Smith will be replacing Steve Czaban in mornings.

Cool. Didn't mind being wrong on that one. So, he's not going to be on KLAC at all? Interesting.

Sorry Mods for copy & pasting the entire insidesocal blog - my bad...

I wonder how long this Chris Meyers thing will go on. Meyers even makes good guests like Charles Barkley boring (I guess that's a talent). I've officially bailed to 710 (bill simmons podcasts) during that slot. He's the 'warm glass of water' of radio. Even PMS don't bother to hide their dislike of the dork.

Between his recently-completed NFL duties and his current NASCAR work (plus his upcoming MLB assignments) for Fox Sports television, Meyers hasn't been on the air a lot lately; maybe one day a week, two at the most. Hartman's co-hosts are been either Lincoln Kennedy or Sean Farnham, and they certainly give the show a somewhat-livelier feel than with Meyers.

Meyers not only lack chemistry with PMS, I can tell he's too not enamored with Vic the Brick either (but then who around here is?)

Just call it Hartman and Friends and be done with it.

I kid because I care.

No, not really. Chris Meyers sucks. At first you could tell Meyers got the top billing because he would do intros and outros in and out of breaks but after a few months those duties were handed over to Hartman as Meyers' role began to wane more and more. As bombastic as Hartman is, he certainly isn't a company man blowhard like Chris "How's my hair?" Meyers. Ditch VTB and get a solid co-host out of the revolving door we've had and it just might be salvageable.

When Hartman first joined the show as part of the merger of KLAC and Fox Sports Radio I remember Chris Meyers would be the lead voice on the show. One day I logged onto the webcam in the Burbank KLAC studios and Chris would be sitting in the "main" chair in the studio. Then a few months later I'm guessing Don Martin changed things around and put Steve who is the radio guy as the lead. I logged on once again to the webcam and this time it was Steve in the "main" chair. haha I think Chris is being fazed out of Fox Sports Radio. Just call it the loudmouth & friends.

Meyers is shockingly 'bland'. He commits the worst offense in sports radio: no opinion. He's a TV Sports Newscaster on the radio (literally) afraid to offer a real opinion on anything because he might be at that dude's football game the next sunday. When he tries to "be funny", it's a real old fashion train wreck. Awkward to say the least.

Hartman stated at the end of the show today that Meyers will be on the show tomorrow to make "a special announcement about the future of the show". I think this is where Meyers officially bails out. Good start!

Yeah looks like Chris is on his way out. I mean they had Ferrall on the other day who works for Howard Stern's 101 channel on Sirius/XM. I guess Hartman will have rotating sidekicks like he had a few years ago at KLAC before they hired Mychael Thompson.

I agree. He is coming up next to say his goodbye on AM 570.

I'm listening. What the hell was the announcement? They are looking to replace myers? That was it? I got confused among Myers & his "mumbling"...

Myers didn't officially leave but did state that with his duties on NASCAR on Fox and some reality type program related to racing he tapes every Tuesday in Charlotte he would be on the radio fewer and farther between. Chris will still appear from time to time when his schedule allows. As far as I understood, Myers' name will still be on the radio show marquee for now.

It wasn't much of an announcement.

Yeah it was lame. Sportsbybrooks is reporting it will be Pat O' Brien. We'll see.

O'Brien was ripping Hartman on his twitter page numerous times a few months ago. Sounds promising....

The debut of Hartman & O'brien (not Conan) on KLAC right now.

Been listening. I like it. O'Brien is easy going, natural sounding, and knows about sports - go figure... He acknowledged his "scandal" and trashing Hartman on twitter. Good start.
