Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

A cross between Hanson and Shania Twain? :-X :p

Re: Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

I thought it sounded a lot like Lonestar's "I'm Already There". And the Hanson connection couldn't be more obvious.

I thought we were over this bubblegum tripe by now? ::) God, I miss the first half of the '90s.

Even in the most auspicious of music eras (like the late '60s or early '90s), bubblegum tripe never completely disappears, though with the economy now tanking I doubt that that kind of music will predominate the way it did during the boom years of the late '90s.

Doctor_radio vs Jan Jeffries

Doctor_Radio, your station sounds MUCH focused and better lately. Apologies for slamming it for months.

here's what Doc's station played this afternoon:

Flo Rida - Elevator
Enur - Calabria Mims Remix
Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head
Miley Cyrus - See You Again
Armor For Sleep - Hold The Door (stiff, it will die on modern rock)
Pitbull - The Anthem
Jordin Sparks - No Air
Weezer - Undone: The Sweater Song (good song, but it's a modern rock gold, NOT a CHR gold)
Chris Brown - With You
Mariah Carey - Touch My Body
Deaf Pedestrians - Hail to the Geek (good current, but it belongs on modern rock)
Coolio - Fantastic Voyage
Lupe Fiasco - Superstar
Atreyu - Falling Down (good current, but it belongs on modern rock)

Cherish - Killa
Incubus - Dig (good recurrent, but it belongs on modern rock)
Christina Milian - Dip It Low
Jonas Brothers - When You Look Me In The Eyes
Gnarls Barkley - Run (good current, but it belongs on modern rock)
Baby Bash - What Is It
Fergie - Fergalicious
Kenny Loggins - Footloose (um...there's a lot of your target demo that was born at least 5 years after 1984)
Jimmy Eat World - Always Be (good current, but it belongs on modern rock)
Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
Muse - Starlight (good recurrent, but it belongs on modern rock)
Murphy Lee - Wat Da Hook Gon Be
Sara Bareilles - Love Song
Webbie - Independent

and now the local Jan Jeffries station, that most people in that area can also get, played this afternoon:

Buckcherry - Sorry (starting off with a current)
Kelly Clarkson - Walk Away
Flo Rida - Low (one of the few currents)
Rob Thomas - Little Wonders (are you a Hot AC or a CHR?)
Nelly Furtado - Say It Right
Jordin Sparks - Tattoo
Chris Brown - With You (finally, another current)
Nickelback - Photograph
Hinder - Lips of an Angel
Shop Boyz- Party Like A Rockstar

Mariah Carey - Touch My Body (staring off another hour with a current)
Elliot Yamin - Wait For You
Kid Rock - Amen (are you a Hot AC or a CHR?)
Pink - Who Knew
Kanye West - Stronger
Coldplay - Clocks (are you a Hot AC or a CHR?)
Maroon 5 - Wake Up Call
Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats
Alicia Keys - No One (finally, another current)

This is a lot like Hot 95.7 vs KRBE in a way, except its a small town station with a rimshot in a medium market vs a local medium market station

Neither are perfect but Doc's kicks @ss the whole way now. One is stale and burning out on the recurrent heavy sets and the other leans rock [with some random 80's song out of nowhere in the middle of the hour]

There's always room for bubblegum, the top two songs at my station are.

This is Top 40 radio after all, so yeah as long as a CHR doesnt go overboard with too many Teen Pop/bubblegum Pop records it'll sound like a good fit.

I still think the Jonas Brothers record is extremely cheesy, but if the audience is digging it more power to the brothers ;D

Oh yeah, and KKCK definitely kicks butt!

This thread was about The Jonas Brothers new song. Your obsession is getting a little worry-some.

Re: Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

I thought that was Shania Twain the first time I heard it, so you are not alone. Hanson didn't immediately come to mind, but come to think of it, it kinda does.

Re: Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

Jonas Brothers record sucks...makes me wanna kill myself. However, Miley tests good with both the younger and older demographic...and I'm tempted to make it a power this week

Are you busting on Jan Jefferies? Don't you claim to work for...nevermind...

By the way, in the outlined situation, what is the medium market????

Re: Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

The Miley Cyrus record is a fun guilty pleasure, even with that blatant rip off from Corey Hart's "Sunglasses At Night"

Re: Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

I think other Miley songs suck

hell naw, I am not a fan at all, I liked hanson a little bit though :D

Re: Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

Hanson's MM BOP was one of my favorite guilty pleasures, Where's the love was a decent song too, but I didnt like none of their other stuff. I remember hearing a Euro Dance Remix of MM-Bop on some stations back then. I think Dust Brother's even did a remix for it. I think people made fun of Hanson back then a little too much, because unlike the Backstreet Boys, Hanson was a full band that actually knew how to play instruments and sing live.

As for the Jonas Brother's, I dont care for their music at all, I think their very mediocore at best, but their TV show isnt too bad. In fact the first time I heard Jonas Brother's on an actual chr was on the way to my EXs house, I was listening to WDJX Louisville and it almost made me wanna crash my car off in a ditch, looking back now, I wish that I would have...... :(

Re: Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

FINALLY!! I think Hanson was probably the most talented thing to come out of the late 90's bubblegum boom. A little embarrassing, but I will admit I was a "Fanson" as we called ourselves. I ate it up. (And you're right, The Dust Brothers did do a remix). I've followed their journey the past 11 years, and since I've been in radio I've analyzed their rise and downfall. I figured out the reason they weren't commercially successful for long is because they were too talented. Their music evolved, their sound improved, and to be honest, I don't believe radio was ready. They're still out there, making music as always. (Though dropped from Mercury some years ago, they have formed their own record label, 3CG Records) And although their fans are older (Most are married with kids now) They still have a loyal fan base and are selling out clubs and college campuses around the country. I think they might have a small amount of success on a indie station these days. Oh wow this has turned into a Hanson History lesson. My bad. :-[ Anyone else have similar thoughts?

I think Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera are the most talented acts to have come out of the late 90s teen pop boom.
Hanson? Not so much. Their voices really arent all that, but I will give them props for at least knowing how to play their instruments.

Re: Is It Me Or Does "When You Look Me In The Eyes" By Jonas Brothers Sounds Like...

Amen on Justin,,,, However, Ive never been much of Christina fan, she relys too much on sex, and not talent to sell records.... JT on the other hand is a musical Genious, and just like Madonna had always done, Justin knows how to evolve his sound with the times so his music always sounds fresh and original.

Justin Timberlake might surround himself with talented people (ie Timbaland and the Neptunes) but I don't think he's a major talent solely by himself. As for Christina Aguiilera, just keep giving her the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal (and for nothing else) and everything will be fine. :)
