Is it News12 "New Jersey" or "North Jersey"

News12 is not even on cable in Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Salem and Burlington Counties.

News12 never reports South Jersey news or traffic.

News12 never covers South Jersey sports of any kind, and never, ever mentions the Eagles/76ers/Flyers/Phillies which have millions of fans in South Jersey. Rowan/Stockton college sports are also totally ignored.

That's because News 12 is owned by Cablevision which is based in the NYC area. (Although News 12 does appear on many Comcast systems in north Jersey). The point of News 12 is to cover the NYC suburbs with local news that would not necessarily be found on the local networks like WNBC, WABC, etc. The network is not intended to carry news or have coverage from South Jersey. In fact, the News 12 NJ office/studios are located in Edison. You can't really expect them to cover news 100+ miles away in AC or Cape May.

If you call yourself News 12 NEW JERSEY, you ought to cover the whole state, methinks. I never watched it when I had cable because it was all North Jersey news, which is of little interest to me.

Good point, Jason....let's refer to it as News 12 NORTH JERSEY from now on.

It is News 12 New Jersey, period, stop

Do that and you'll get a cease-and-desist order from Cablevision.

Where were you watching from? I don't see why it makes a difference what they are called since the only people who can get News 12 live in NORTH Jersey. I have friends down in Atlantic and Cumberland counties and News 12 is certainly not on either of those cable systems.

Manahawkin, Barnegat, LBI and environs are not even close to "North Jersey" and they get News 12.

Bayville, Berkeley Twp., Ocean County. NOT NORTH JERSEY by a long shot.

Ok, but I still don't understand what the big deal is that News 12 is on these cable systems. I live in Jersey City and I get WLNY (which covers Long Island news) and RNN (which covers Westchester and Putnam County, NY news). RNN is supposed to be the Regional News Network that covers all of the tri-state area, but really they only have news from Westchester and Putnam counties. So, I don't watch.

They won't even touch Burlington and Camden Counties news, which are within 60 miles of distance. Of course, they are not on cable there. If South Jersey residents are to be critical of News12 use of New Jersey, they should be critical of Southern NJ stations misuse of service area as well. The Atlantic City FM signals and WMGM-TV service Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland Counties. However, their advertising is off - for example, WMGM TV claims to be NBC FOR SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY, even though most of Southern NJ isn't in Atlantic, Cumberland or Cape May counties. JerseyShor - What's up with that? How come no thread on that? WMGM should change it to Secondary NBC station for Atlantic City/Wildwood and Vineland area, to be safe from dispute.

I believe News 12 NJ is seen as south as Tuckerton NJ. they might cover South jersey when there is a major story other than that it does not cover South Jersey as far as I know. The station pretty much is seen in the NYC DMA portion of NJ with the exception of Mercer County. but it is not seen in Burlington County. I agree that News 12 NJ rarely ever goes anywhere South of the Ocean County border.

A lot of people in Monmouth, Middlesex, and even Union, etc. would consider themselves "Central Jersey," not "North Jersey." Not to mention Ocean.
