Is Judy Franco the Liner Voice of the new "Fresh 102.7"?

Check it out. Sounds just like the woman who does some of the liners on SOJO 104.9 who definitely is "Jersey Judy." If that's the case, could Franco be contemplating a return to NY radio al la her days on 105.1 The Buzz?

James Gandolfini(sp?) would be the perfect voice for any New York station, well second only to Hillary Clinton of coarse.

I always read this board but after hearing Dennis and Judi and seeing this post I had to give you a glimpse of what I heard today. It was pretty awful in my opinion.

That would be good news for 101.5 if Judi left for NY. Judi should take Dennis with her. I'm in an office today that had these two on and everyone wanted the station changed but the receiver is located behind a locked door and the boss with the key was out on an extended vacation.
In the 10 o'clock hour they had 8 topics going from New Years to Dennis saying he wants to do stand up. Stand up? not from what I heard all boring chatter and about 3 calls for the hour. In the 11 o'clock I recall something about about why they hate cruises but I did notice Judi complain towards the end of the hour that they had no ads and no calls. Well if they had an entertaining show they would have calls and advertisers. Dennis thought some guy talking about steam cleaning on a ship was a good bit for him and Judi to talk over but after Judi kept repeating herself it was extremely annoying. Dennis sounded boring and disinterested in the topic also.
12 o'clock thankfully we fled the office and went out for lunch and got a reprieve from this Dennis and Judi torture show. The 1 o'clock hour they spent the 1st half hour deciding on a topic so at that point I had enough and pushed up the ceiling tile and pulled the speaker wire. The office was saved from the last 1/2 hour of Dennis and Judi.

Judi in fact has done imaging for SoJO... and in fact, Fresh appears to me to pretty much be SoJO for New York City. Playlist and core artists seem to be pretty identical.

Right. This story sounds like complete B.S. For someone who hates D&J so much, you seemed to have kept a pretty accurate log of what they were talking about today.

I don't know why Star is so angry. I don't hate or care about Dennis or Judi it was on in the office today and I wanted to discuss it since I saw this post. I can recall it because of how bad the show was and why Judi would complain of no callers and no ads. She said it, no B.S. towards the end of their second hour. The reason why I remember that is because I was waiting until noon to go out to lunch that's all. Their first hour was easy to remember and so was the last in which their topic was trying to pick a topic which I thought was boring. The noon hour I was out to lunch. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recall this. Dennis did say he's thinking about doing stand up. He said it, no B.S. Stand up maybe a good idea for Dennis since what I heard today was a guy who sounded burnt out. He's not funny or entertaining in my opinion but if he thinks he can do stand up he should go for it. Please try not to attack those who want to post their opinions here. Since you know so much about Dennis and Judi do you remember when Judi told Dennis that she wanted to say FU on the air and Dennis said go ahead I want to see your face when I don't dump it. As it is known it went out on the air. Did they get a fine for that and will or was the fine be doubled since it was also broadcasted on their South Jersey station ?

Fresh, you nailed the entire D&J show. They didn't have any advertisors which was strange. They didn't even play that creepy Kars for Kids thing. I think Judi was bitching because she couldn't take any breaks like they do when the commercials run. They didn't seem to do any show prep as the topics were random and just thrown out to see what would stick. Dennis has done stand up in the past, and although I have haven't seen him, I know people that have and said he is ok. He has a quick wit and I think if Judi would stop interupting him, he might have a few more witty remarks every show. She needs to be the center of attention and poor Dennis can rarely finish a thought. I think today he was cut off from at least three things he tried to say. I guess the most interesting thing during the show ( your lunch hour Fresh) was that Dennis was going to try and meet his high school crush tonight before she goes back to California tomorrow. We got to hear how they made out and were caught parking when they were kids. Other than that the show was almost mailed in. I do listen everyday and there are days those two make me laugh and help me get through 4 hours of the work day. Today, wasn't one of them.

Thank you for backing me up against the attack by Starscream. It is obvious Starscream didn't listen today. The damage was done. No one in the office will listen to Dennis and Judi after today's crappy show. If I was a prospective advertiser and I was listening today I wouldn't want to be associated with this burnt out show. We all agreed in our office that Dennis and Judi sounded like they are just there to cash a paycheck and whoever or whomever hired them should be fired along with them.

You are so right! The most successful FM talk station in the nation is just that because they have talk show hosts that do nothing more than the basics and just enough to get by everyday. They should immediately fire the midday hosts, Eric Johnson, dump the consultant, and maybe run some slick syndicated programming instead.

Hey genius, in case you haven't noticed, the holiday season is winding down, people are just getting back into the swing of things, there isn't a damn thing happening in the state, and businesses usually don't dump huge amounts of cash into advertising in early January (you as a 'potential' advertiser are rare this time of year!). Dennis & Judy goofing around for a few hours perfectly parallelled the average New Jersey resident today. Do you really want hard hitting political talk on January 2nd? No!

What attack? That I find it highly unlikely that a stereo is locked into 101.5 and is inaccessible to the entire office? That you climbed through the ceiling a la Tom Cruise to disconnect it? That you're pushing an obvious anti-D&J agenda?

That you claim you don't listen to the show, but you can recall the F-U incident?

That you're LYING that you "don't care" about D&J, but you OBVIOUS care enough to post about them.

Sorry. Not buying it. Not for an instant.

If you can make judgment about an entire station after one show that is on what is traditionally one of the slowest days of the year because everyone is getting back from vacation, then... whatever.

Wow...I didn't mean to set off such a s-storm. Upon several more listens, it may not be her but it sure sounds like her...especially on some words. I agree, "Fresh" does sound alot like HOJO104.9.... especially those "This is Fresh music" promos they're running. Perhaps they use the same consultant..perhaps just a coinkydink.
Thought she might be looking for a way of the compound. The money at "Fresh" may not be much better for all we know. We're in an industry that now thinks anyone earing over 30K is overpaid.

A response to Star and Eats.
To say the most successful FM talk station in the country isn't a big deal since there are so few of them. WABC is the most successful talk station in the nation and a former PD from there is now at a NY FM talk station. 101.5 will see this change as more talk leave the AM band for FM and more talk FM formats are developed on FM due to the competetion from Sirius and XM. How many other FM talk stations are there in NJ with 50,000 watts? I guess 101.5 wins by default here. That's why people have to look at the B.S. nonsense put out by eats and star. WABC is the nations top talk station and that's the real story.

It takes two seconds to push up a ceiling tile and disconnect a speaker wire from the speaker but thanks for the compliment of making it more complicated then it really is. As far as remembering Judi saying FU on the air it was well discussed on many forums. Since Eats and Star seem to be acting as the P.R. people can they answer some simple questions. Was there a fine for the FU incident ? How much was it and did they also include the South Jersey station that it was also broadcasted on ?

Freshface:

You do realize that your argument that Sirius and XM will compete with 101.5 is a load of garbage, right? Here's why.

Stations like 101.5 and WFAN are very local, niche stations. Sirius and XM will not dedicate their bandwidth to broadcast a niche station.

FM Talk formats being developed? In case you didn't see it, a lot of the Free-FM's aren't doing that well. In fact, the New York Free-FM doesn't "compete" with XM, because 1/4 of it's programming is pulled directly from XM.

XM's talk stations, outside Bob Edwards, O&A, and R&F, are pretty much re-broadcasts of Clear Channel's hot-talk shows from the south, and syndicating material that's already heard on terrestrial radio. Outside of Stern, I'm not sure what original talk programing sirius has.

Here's the topper for you: New Jersey 101.5 has been broadcasting this format successfully for almost 15 years now. This isn't some ratings fluke, or some spinjob. They make money, they have cume, they have TSL. What does WABC have to do with anything? They are a New York station.

As for being New Jersey 101.5's PR person, well... no. I listen to Carton and Rossi, and that's about it. I actually think the station made me hate Barry White's "Can't Get Enough of Your Love".

The point to pick-up on is that the most successful FM talk station in the nation is here in New Jersey, based in market #130-whatever. It isn't in NYC, it's not in L.A., it's not in Chicago, not in Dallas, not in Boston. It's in podunk Trenton, NJ. The point to pick-up on is that the most successful FM talk station in the country is live and local 24/7 and has more news people than anyone else in the state. The CBS's and Clear Channel's of the world dump syndicated crap on the air with maybe one news person for a 6-station cluster and then wonder why it gets a 1.8 12+.

I'm not following your line of thought here. You're proving my own point by saying more FM talk stations are being developed. None of them have even come close to 101.5. There are no other FM talk stations in NJ, so they win by default anyway??? B.S.? Don't think so. And didn't KFI/Los Angeles grab the "most listened to" AM station title a couple years ago, even for only a brief time?

WABC is the nations top talk station and that's the real story.

Yes, it is. I said "FM." It's the letter "F" followed by "M." As in frequency modulation. Don't think I ever said just "talk station."

As far as remembering Judi saying FU on the air it was well discussed on many forums. Since Eats and Star seem to be acting as the P.R. people can they answer some simple questions.

Me, a P.R. person? Don't think so. Want me to be anti-PR? Fine: NJ 101.5 isn't anything like what is used to be a few years ago. Everyone in this state wants political reform, property tax reform, ethics reform, and no one does anything about it. It wasn't that long ago that 101.5 lead the charge to get Florio not re-elected. If the station wants to be the true champion of the Garden State, it needs to go back to what it did a number of years ago - stand up, lead the fight, and don't back down.

Was there a fine for the FU incident ? How much was it and did they also include the South Jersey station that it was also broadcasted on ?

Why are you so obsessed with this? Did you file a complaint with the FCC? Do you have tape of it to back-up your claim? If no one complains, no fine can be levied! Seems like this is something you should give up on. The most listened to FM (take note: there's those two letters again) talk station in the country dropped the F-bomb and no one cared!!! It's New Jersey - they teach the F-word to kids in 1st grade.

A quarter? I know about O&A, but who else is on both Free FM and XM?

Ron and Fez are on both XM 202 and Free FM.

Hey, I know you.

O&A have a simulcast - 6-9 on XM and Free-FM, then 9-11 on XM.

Ron and Fez do 12-3 on XM, and then do a completely independent non-simulcast show on Free from 6-9.

I like listening to D and J, but by far, Judi by herself is entertaining. She admits to screwing up the board and she's brash sometimes. Thats the most entertaining part. BY FAR, the best topic she does is when people return things to stores after using them.

Oh if only she did the show by herself more often.

Isn't fraud a wonderful thing!
