Is K104.7 Speeding Up Some Of Their Music?

In my opinion, it sounds like they're speeding up SOME of their music.

To me, it doesn't sound right.

96.9The Kat was doing it recently, also.

What is your opinion of stations that speed up their music?

Do you think they do it to make the station sound more exciting, or are they just trying to make the programming go faster?

It used to be used to make the station sound more peppy and exciting.
Today, it might be so they can cram another commercial in every couple hours.

Nothing new - I remember tape on the turntable drive shaft to get a kick from 45 to 48 rpm. Was great on must songs, but there were a few that sounded really strange.

Russco used to make a special sleeve that would speed the 45 to 46.5. Jack McCoy (KCBQ) did exhaustive research to show that the listener's mind could not percieve any "pitch change" up to that speed.

Splicing tape on the shaft would not always apply cleanly and it would cause awful flutter, and most times we would end up using too much thereby passing the pitch issue so some of the songs on am stations I worked for sounded REALLY fast.

Worst offender of ts that I caremember was the old WBBF in Rochester..you should have heard "I Just Want to Celebrate" by Rare Earth sped up to 48-50rpm..UBER fast.

These days it can be done on Adobe Audition..and more easily controlled.

I remember hearing it on Q94 in Richmond, VA well into the 80's. I agree with a couple of the posts, some of the songs just didn't sound right. Growing up around radio, I can't say there were any songs, on which I could not notice the pitch change. I SEEMS to me that in that era, they sped up the ballads, rock, and urban-crossover music on that particular station.

At one time in Florida, we actually spliced out part of the middle of songs so we could run more spot content per hour..hell, we were already running 21 minutes and hour and that wasn't good enough for the "Suits"! BIGAPE!
