Is KFRG about to leap out of the CBS pond?

Certainly CBS is divesting itself of radio properties, but I don't recall if it was on the cut list...would make sense tho, eh?

Riverside, Victor Valley and Palm Springs are on the list. I was told, but can't confirm, they want to sell them as a cluster.

David, please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the "K-Frog" stations the only stations that CBS owns in Riverside, Victor Valley and Palm Springs??

If this is the case, then, it makes sence for CBS to divest those properties, since they're only running 1 format over there.

They have stand-alone EZ 103 in Palm Springs, and KTAK, a stand alone AM in the Victor Valley, as well as KVFG which is the Froggy station in the High Desert. So there are 4 stations.

Thats KRAK 910 AM Victor Valley.

A prime candidate for a power increase ::)

Sandwiched in between Oxnard and Phoenix on 910, and KHJ and Las Vegas on 930, it does not look like they can do very much.

The 910 Hesperia was shoe-horned in back in the 1980's. KALI 900 West Covina has an app. for a power increase pending with a transmitter location change to the 1600 site in Pomona. There are also 910's in Mexicalli and El Cajon and of course KPSI 920 in Palm Springs with yet another 920 in Las Vegas to contend with. CBS also owns KXFG 92.9 Sun City in the Hemet-Temecula area that basically similcasts KFRG.

Funny that KFRG is now on KLSX's HD-2. Especially since I bet KFRG's analog signal covers more area in LA metro than KLSX's HD-2. I wonder if this means anything at all? Other than, if permanent, the new guy at CBS is out of his mind.

CBS has announced that it is going to sell its stations outside the top 10 markets.

Trades say they are selling below 15. Did that change to top 10 as the only keepers?

The things I have heard indicate only the top 10 markets are fully safe. Of course, unless you qualify to ask for the books, that's pretty much conjecture.

Is it too early to speculate on who might buy KFRG? It's been a very successful radio station for over 19 years.

Is it safe to say that the country market is shrinking and for KFRG to continue to be successful it would need to flip to a format capable of a larger cume?

KFRG does nicely in 12+ and 25-54 in PPM. While the cume is lower than some stations, the AWTE is good and I can't think of a format that would do better, sales wise.

FYI..... Ray Massie didn't leave KFRG to go to KNIX! He's at KNIX now... eventually.....

Does CBS own all of the stations in Riverside, Victorville, Palm Speings and Hemet -- or are they on LMA's or what ?? I think that the FCC data base shows different names for the owners - other than CBS.
