Is KOZA AM 1230 in Odessa actually On The Air?

I drove through Odessa several years back and tried to pick up 1230 AM on my car radio and never heard their signal. It didn't appear that there was any life in the old run down studios on S. Crane. I worked there for Woody Stevens and Barry Sykes before we took it dark in mid 80's. Notables were Charlene V, Mel Turner & Frank Childs and Gary Dee. Maybe it faded away along with KJJT AM 1000 and KOYL 1310.

I worked there in 81 with John Defee, Larry Morgan, Keith Montgomery, Chuck Swedburg, Arcie Chapa, and Frank Childs. We had some canned show in the morning...can't remember what it was. I worked nights and never heard it. :)

It appears to be off the air. I heard nothing on 1230 Monday. KOZA's tower still stands alongside Crane Av behind the middle school. It's bizarre- you can drive around the tower, which is encircled by a fence. The vertical radiator is not the tower, but a pair of wires running up the side. The ATU is at the base and outside the fence is a block building barely large enough for a transmitter. The studio building further south on Crane is gone. Ironically, there's an FM studio right across the street. If KQLM/Q108 ever wanted an AM, it's just standing there.
