Is KPNX time shifting the NBC network feed of the Olympics?

Since nearly all coverage is "time-shifted" due to the London location, it's not exactly big news.

There is no Mountain Time Zone feed (and if there were, it would start at 8PM due to DST), KPNX broadcasts the East Coast feed, locally delayed. They could opt for the West Coast feed, but that also would start @8PM. Since the broadcast is locally managed, its very easy and profitable to add an extra 30-second spot here and there.

NBC's coverage (whether live or delayed) airs 7:30 PM-12:00 AM ET. Mc12 runs it
6:30-11:00 PM PT, so it's the usual two hour delay of the net feed.

NBC has had a Mountain zone feed since the mid-1980s for prime time, and as of a
later date for its entire schedule. The MT feed hits AZ at 6 PM (not 8 PM) for the normal
prime time schedule. As I'm led to believe, Mc12 doesn't even use it in the winter,
preferring to delay the ET/CT feed and drop in extra local spots during the evening.

For sports, the "normal" local Mountain time delay IS the problem. This is supposed to be live sports. (...and I'm not referring to the NBC tape-delay to primetime that is all the buzz on the internet.)

Seems to me this is a choice Channel 12 is making for sports that are being fed live by the network to Central and Eastern timezones.

Ridiculous.

But we're not the same as the other MT markets during the summer! It seems that 12 has no choice but to "delay" the network feed or else the primetime would start at 6pm!

As far as live events are concerned, all of Arizona except for the Navajo Nation are on Pacific Daylight Time (UTC-7, which is the same as Mountain Standard Time).

So are we saying that KPNX is not able to live broadcast something that is fed live to the Eastern and Central timezones, even if they wanted to? This seems odd. I'm talking about the daytime stuff that is being fed live to ET/CT, not the prime time stuff.

What I suspect is that either NBC or KPNX does not want to mess with the time slot of the cash cow: "Today", thus the choice is made to delay the live sports just like Today, Nightly News, etc. is delayed as a rule here in Phoenix. Frustrating though, that they treat live sports this way during the Olympics. (Obviously NFL, PGA, etc. is fed live to AZ just like to the rest of the country.) OK, I've said my peace.

You're absolutely right. The real issue seems to lie with both NBC (yes, the TODAY cash cow) and 12 (wants to keep the local news cash cows 12 News Today from 4:30-7am, EVB Live at 4pm, 12 News at 5pm, the Arizona Nightly News at 6pm, and The Olympic Zone at 6:30pm).

Wow, I never knew that "200 EVB" was a cash cow! ;D

And has been noted, Mc12 does air some live sports...live. As in the Sunday night
NFL game, for example, as well as NFL game specials on other nights.

I was wondering if anyone would catch that! :D

In fact, Olympic coverage from 4 to 5pm would probably increase the ratings tenfold over EVB Dead!
