Is KRDC 1110 am los angeles shutting down on the 22nd?

Yes I realized I should've mentioned them too. Folks in Seattle and Portland were fortunate to have them. It truly was Golden West Broadcasting!

The only city missing is San Diego but back in the day 710's signal was about as effective as KFI's in San Diego!
710 still has a decent signal in San Diego. Not as good as KFI, but pretty listenable in most areas of the County.

Not for long. When they move to the 1110 site, they will be severely downgraded and will not even cover half of the LA market well.

A huge amount of the "final product" of classical music is in the arrangement and the conductor. So I can enjoy the same work as if it were entirely different when played by different orchestras and conductors.

I find this particularly evident with less famous works. One of my favorites is Holst's The Planets, which has around 60 recorded versions. The original, conducted by the composer, is faster-paced than most recent versions (but it was recorded on gramophone gear about 100 years ago). The versions I have heard each have an interesting and distinguishing characteristic; it seems to be a work where conductors like to "personalize" to some extent and that can be quite exciting to hear when a new recording is discovered.

I liked "Jupiter" so much that a piece of it from about 3 minutes in was the sign-on theme for my HCTT1, "Buena Música en Quito", 95.7 FM.
I forgot to ask...speaking of The Planets...what do you think of Isao Tomita's rendering?

It's a little to creative for my tastes. I find he takes unusual excursions into contrasting strings with the rest of the orchestra: I may need to listen again to see if this is an acquired taste.

I don't mind creative arrangements and modifications of traditional orchestrations and adapting of tempo, such as some of the Gustavo Dudamel performances are... but on The Planets I like the usual contrasts of highly percussive elements the best.

I forgot to mention that I even used bits of The Planets to introduce segments... as well as for sign-on... on the classical station I owned long ago... so I am rather bonded with the versions I heard back then.

In one of the more bizarre transactions, Disney offloaded KEPN to Good Karma Brands as part of a larger deal that sees GKB buying all but KRDC and KESN/Dallas in Disney’s portfolio.

Shouldn’t it have been the other way around? Why would you keep the station that isn’t being massively downgraded?

Perhaps there is another imminent deal to be announced for KRDC and that site.

This also has to be the clearest indication yet that KESN is on the block in Dallas.

Good Karma takes over the ESPN Radio affiliates managed by Disney.

For now KRDC is held by Disney.

Kggi has been on that frequency for LA since 2014 so im confused as to what region this radio Disney country 99.1 fm was on in even though it said it was on in LA that doesnt make sense to me though.
KGGI is not in the LA Metro Survey Area. It is a Riverside/San Bernardino station, and does not cover with a 60 dbu signal any populated part of LA or Orange counties.

KGGI is not "for LA" as it is in a separate market.

It used to pop right in on the freeway, just like the proverbial "horseradish"! I assumed it came in everywhere! Has something changed? It's not like the situation with AM.
It may get some coverage of the San Gabriel Valley in cars out on freeways, but in most places it is not truly listenable. In the rest of LA, it is way below a usable signal and it does not show in the LA Nielsen at all.

So Disney is going to keep KRDC AM 1110 after all. Makes me wonder why they dumped the Radio Disney programming earlier this year just to simulcast the programming of 710 AM KSPN? Will KRDC bring back Radio Disney or just keep the ESPN programming?

I was thinking that there were five "Super B(s) out that way, with enormous antenna height and power, that just popped into LA and that was one of them.

There are no Riverside-San Bernardino "super B's" that truly make it into LA. For decades, the best of that market's signals, KLYY, has tried to be a competitive LA market signal. While it gets decent Orange County coverage, it does not get most of LA County. None of the other FMs there gets more than the eastern edge of LA County and the unpopulated mountains of eastern OC.

There are only a couple of B's in the market. Froggy is a standard 50 kw at 500 feet, and just KOLA and KLYY are grandfathered higher power operations.

Christian Broadcaster VCY America could be a likely candidate as the new owner. They're entering the San Francisco, Palm Springs, and Las Vegas markets at a true bargain. Even on AM and FM Translator, adding LA to their California folder would be icing on the cake.
They got a low price because two of the three are very limited or marginal signals. They don't seem to be buying "good" signals or they simply don't understand AM coverage in today's environment.

My recollection is from the late '70s. It seemed like I was in the middle of the LA freeway system heading east. It was perfect reception and I must have assumed it was the same anywhere within line of sight of the tower. Thank you for clearing this up for me.
