Is radio still the best delivery system for music?

There are many other ways that efficiently deliver music better than terrestrial radio. Radio as a delivery system for IDEAS...now, that's something. Can you convey a lifestyle (rural, urban, suburban) WITHOUT using the tunes?

I have enjoyed the freedom and huge choices that satellite radio delivers. Ya once in a while I feel the need for something local as far as events, weather, chit-chat, etc. If the inventors of sat radio had configured the system to work like the weather channel on cable where local content can be stored and delivered at local breaks there would be far less terrestrial radio right now. Too bad cause sat radio would have been in a completely different place right now.

Of course sat radio is only one of many alternative systems to discuss.

Ha. Ha. Ah-ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Local? What local? Clear Channel? That's local? Voice-tracking? Yep, pretty damn local and immediate. Especially during a weather event. Tune into most radio stations during a severe thunderstorm warning or tornado watch and you get.....a program recorded 10 hours ago!!!

The FM talker at 101 is local. They actually have someone talking about something going on now.

Other than that, there is no local. Local went the way of cart machines and AP tickers.

Might as well have satellite. It ain't local but you can hear music that no one on regular (HAH!) radio will touch.

Local radio. Mr. Chenn, you just made my day. You made me smile after all.

Edison Media has been doing a research project called "Infinite Dial" for 10 years ... it studies how people use radio and other music/information delivery systems. Check it out. I found it at Arbitron .com ... they may even have a podcast of the Webinar from a few weeks ago. If this is an important topic to you I would think you would find the study interesting.
