Is radio worse in Louisville...

It was a pretty funny thing QMF did after clear channel took over acting as if they were gonna change the format and for a day they played a different format every hour.

I would love some airchecks of that day. I hope someone posts that at LKY Radio.com one day. I remember turning on QMF and hearing Mariah Carey and wondering what in the world was going on. lol.

Q2 went away when clear channel bought qmf and sold 105.9 to cox radio and they turned it into hits 105.9 i thought the jocks were to low key then it became an all 80s station then salem bought them and became the river.

Greg you are right about Q2 being a pioneer jukebox i remember when louisville tonight was there with bob sokoler celebrating there one year anniversary. Mel highlighted the cd changer where all the songs were kept lol. I remember seeing mel there at Q2. Her and tony vanneti worked there and are the only 2 left in louisville radio that worked there.

I still loved the station back then.

Actually, The River began in January, 1996 on 94.7. When Cox wanted to start an urban oldies station on 94.7, it was determined that the River was a better format than the Hits format on 105.9, so it became 105.9 The River in 1997.

It remained 105.9 The River as long as Cox owned it, and when Salem bought it in the summer of 1999, they apparently thought, "Hey, what a great name for a Christian radio station," because they kept the name.

And doesn't Duke Meyer still work in radio over at FPL/FPK? I see him in our parking garage sometimes and have always assumed that. I'm sure Duke changed a few of those VCR tapes over at Q2. ;) So that would be three.

And I wonder if the time Future Bob spent at QMF was during the Q2 days?

No i am talking about peeps only on the radio at Q2 that still work in radio in louisville. Tony and mel are the only two. Duke i believe had left qmf by then but even if he was still there which i do not think he was he had absolutely nothing to do with Q2.

He was never on the station and future bob had nothing to do with Q2 either.

I remember Dennis...I remember as a teenager I cringed thinking what an embarrassment WJCD (not Dennis specificallY) was to Seymour (I was probably a little too harsh) :)

I remember the WSLM jingles too...like, walen walen walen from salem salem salem.

Never understood the affected voice inflections of the DJs...kinda like they were kids pretending to be DJs...I can see them cupping their ear with their hand
You mean like this??

Future Bob was at the Fox when Q2 signed on. He got hired as a part timer whan the fox signed on in June of 93. After about six weeks, he got the mid-day shift, which opened up a weekend slot for me :) I managed to keep it for sixteen years. Good beer money.

The Fox was great in those days.Craven, Future Bob, Zack Tyler, Big Buck Nekked, and Buzz Casey. Now I don't even recognize the music they play. Guess I'm getting old. lol

The fox of premium choice is a different fox then what was locally programmed.

Whom ever came up w premium choice should be banned from radio!!!

I remember the whole bit bucked naked had at 100.5 the fox in summer of 93 when he had this crush on the meteoorologist ashley chism at whas 11 and she would come on the air. It was very funny.

Did he mispronounce her name Ashley Jizm?

No he didn't, Bob. He played it from the angle of a guy with a huge crush. Very entertaining. As long as I'm on here again, I have to tell a story on Future Bob. One of the first times I was in the Fox studios to work, he was doing his mid day shift. I had never met him, but had heard him on the air at QMF for years. So I go into the studio where he's working (a temporary studio that was actually a production room with one of those old control boards with the rotary pots). Future Bob's sitting in a wheelchair at the control board. He had been recovering from a motorcycle accident, I think. Anyway, he jumps up out of his wheelchair and hops over to me on his good leg with a great big smile on his face, introduces himself and extends his hand. He had hair down to his a$$, looked like he should have been on a Bob Seger album cover, lol. That encounter made a big impression on me.

That was back in the days when prizm comminications started up the fox and did he introduce himself as future bob or keith taylor???

Peter smith programmed it back in those days and wwky and lite 106.9 and the fox were all owned by them.

I am telling you bains capital is the worst thing to ever happen to radio aka premium choice i rest my case!!!

I had the pleasure of working with Peter Smith at WNAP/Indy...what a prince of a guy! Made great sounding radio as well.

I thought Buzz Casey programmed the Fox before Peter Smith.

Thanks for the kind words Craven, I really enjoyed working with you, you always sounded great on the air.

When 100.5 signed on, Buzz was the PD, Zack was the MD. Peter came along later and did raise the ratings during his time as PD.

But that is like saying the djx of 85 is not the djx of 2010 sure it is kinda but music changes. They still have entertaining jocks and chr format. The fox has the same format rock as it has since it signed on but they skew more alt/active then they were but i miss the local feel to it i do like the music better since premium choice but will not listen much since it is not local.

I wonder if the fox is here to stay?Cant imagine louisville w/out a current rock station but who knows w the suits???

I can't wait to go to KY myself to see what all the hype is about. This board is more active than the Wisconsin one and I want to know why.

With the demise of WLRS, I'd say the Fox is here to stay. The only other option I could see would be to turn QMF into new and classic rock. Seems like SFR always wins the battle of the classic rockers so this is at least possible.
