Is rick dees live or not on 92.3 in the mornin? He does not sound live?

I never ever hear him front announce or back announce any music nor give the weather or anything. He could be live he just does not sound like it does anyone know for sure???I dont know but mornings are meant to be live at least in market number 2...

Most morning shows tape their first half hour to an hour, depending on what time they actually start. Dees just does the same, he tapes his show from his own studio in Burbank. I dont know exactly the extent of what is recorded, so I cant say. But some of it is definitely NOT live.

they use his morning show like seacrest morning show for his "daily dees" show that is syndicated. He takes snippets from the L.A. morning show and other shows can use that in middays or pm drive. Hence the bland formula.

You may not remember but he got dogged for that by Kevin and Bean many years ago. Dees had just signed a huge new contract at KIIS, and few listeners knew that he was not even there for the first hour of the show....it was music, his sidekicks and little canned snippets from him. Kevin and Bean sent "Michael the Maintenance Man" to Dees' house with a bullhorn yelling at him to get up and get to work. Dees fled to work but later claimed he was worried for his safety because he was being stalked by black guy with a bullhorn. Of course he was so scared he left his wife and kid in the house, but hey, why ruin a good story.....

I was listening a couple of weeks ago and at the top of the 8:00 hour, Rick's "live read" of the call letters cut out ... and then repeated from the start a couple seconds later.

Still, his pre-recorded banter with the call in-winners -- "Mmmm-hmmmm ... and what city are you calling from?" -- makes me wonder if he was also recorded when I was listening in the '80s. :D

Its not live. I notice it too when Rick did a remote for Jimmy on Friday morning while leaving work. They must have a intern working the board in the morning. Sad enough I started listening to Valentine on MYFM and his show sounds way better and it sounds live too. But I think its somewhat VT too. Even seeing the new billboards around Los Angeles not that much promotion or effort in his return on KHHT part. At least on Movin it was upbeat and celeberity guest would stop by despite the format tweaks. Despite Victors shoutouts in the morning he was a decent morning host. They should have just gave it to Rene Taylor. Just like Renel on KISQ in San Fransico.

Clear Channel voice tracks just about every daypart on the station. Dees' show is so bland and not at all local. BTW, Rene Taylor is voice tracked too. She's the P.A. announcer for the S.F. Giants. AM drive voice tracking is the worse.

Correction - Renel Brooks-Moon (formerly Lewis) is the P.A. announcer for the SF Giants, not Renee Taylor. Renel is the host of the morning show on "Kiss-FM" (KISQ), San Francisco's equivalent to Hot 92.3. I haven't listened in awhile, but I believe Renel's radio show is still live. KISQ shares two DJs with Hot 92.3: Tony Sandoval and Lisa St. Regis, so I would assume they're voice-tracked.

Renee Taylor used to DJ at Wild 94.9 in the Bay Area, but I believe she's been based in LA for quite a few years now.

I like Renee Taylor & she's a great lady, but she doesn't have the same relationship with the market that Renel does in SF. Renel has been part of morning radio in the Bay Area for over 20 years, many of them solo. Renee doesn't have that history in LA, and I don't know if she has that experience anywhere. I'm sure, though, a live Renee Taylor would be way better than the unfortunate show they have Rick doing. He's amazing when given the opportunity. I hope his heart is still in it.

Renne Taylor is one of the last orignal jocks when KHHT launched in Auguest of 2001. Renne VT for most of the CC Urban AC stations in the midwest, south and east coast. She VT for WVAZ in Chicago and WYLD in New Orleans overnight. So shes been in LA for over 10 years. I just think since CC wants to save money it would have been a better choice. KHHT music fits Rick Dees demo since he was big in the 80's and 90's but it would be nice to hear some life on the station. Sad enough Lisa whos VT sounds better than Rick and live. I wonder what station is Lisa based at KHYL in Sacramento, or KISQ in San Franisco. I remeber she use to host the Quiet Storm on XHRM when CC owned the station.

Agreed about Renel. I don't find her show very compelling, but that's just my personal taste. She's hosted the morning show on KISQ since the beginning of that station - about 14 years now. A few years ago, CC made the stupid decision to replace her with the Tom Joyner morning show for awhile, but that was a dud, so they brought Renel back to mornings. Then she and the station "parted ways" for a few months last year, and now she's back.

Renel was part of the London & Engleman "Morning Zoo" on KMEL in the 80s, and I believe her resume goes back to 610/KFRC - so she's probably logged closer to 30 years on Bay Area radio.

My daughter (now 28) was a KYLD fan in the 90s, and met Renee Taylor at some Bay Area public event and was quite star-struck by her, so I guess she's a nice lady. I recall that she had a great voice. She's voice-tracked for a couple of Bay Area CC stations during the years she's been in LA.

LOL I had no idea Tom Joyner was on in the Bay area years ago. I figured he only aired on two markets Los Angeles and Sacramento. Very dumb move gotta love Clear Channel LOL

Renel was a weekender on 610/KFRC at the end of the Top 40 era in 1986..
