Is Samanthas lay off at KOAS a tip that this station is going to fip?

Today Samantha was layed off at KOAS as a program director. Could this be another station to bit the dust? Lets hope not.

Not sure if it's going to fip. :) But it may flip to either all BA or another format. One thing for sure. A Smooth Jazz PD these days is not going to be jettisoned without the air staff to follow. They're local 24/7 and no Smooth Jazz station can afford that. Ratings are respectable but way down from a year ago. You have to know that BA is very, very, very desperate now to save face in light of these defections. My guess is that BA called the GM, GM got sold on the pitch and told Samantha, Samantha said go to you-know-where and that was the end of it. Look for BA to proudly announce new clearance for Ramsey/Koz in short order. They will NOT stay local and stay in this format. Not with BA losing stations left and right. They're going to claim what they can, and GMs with a local staff are prime targets. Keep an eye on this station. And don't let WJJZ Philadelphia get too far out-of-mind either since Kepler has some kind of long term plan for it.

"True Oldies 105.7" anyone???

KKLZ already is oldies, don't let the "classic hits" name fool you. They are in the mainstream of what oldies stations sound like in 2008. Nobody will flip to an older, more pure oldies format because the demos would be too old to sell.

Jay, I would agree with you if it weren't for that lil ol station on 104.7.

Actually I would say because 104.7 exists it makes it even less likely that another station would go true oldies. KJUL does a good job programming for the upper demos. They are making the most of that very poor signal with adult standards. If they were any other format nobody would listen.

While standards is perfect for 104.7, no city grade signal would air a 55+ format. If the OASIS does end up changing formats it will be something younger, not older than what they have now.

Depending on how well KJUL bills, Im sure Riviera would love to take a slice of their pie. If its not making the cash, I am in line with your theory. How about a well-programmed mainstream CHR to take on KVEG, KLUC ie: not being as rhythmic) and shave the younger demos off of Mix? Otherwise, I am not sure what could work, besides maybe an Urban AC.

Urban AC would probably be the best logical choice to evolve to. I say do it in a way that doesn't piss off the current listenership, mabye sliding UAC tracks in and then up-ing the UAC content each week until they've fully evolved.
