Is Star 94 Really the Most Powerful Top 40 Station in the SE?

I keep hearing these ads all over Star 94 saying that it is "the most powerful top 40 station in the southeast." I know it is a class C 100kW station but aren't there a handful of other top 40 stations in the southeast that are of equal power but have higher transmitters so that they emit at a longer contour range? Anyone have a comment on this one?

Well up I-85 in Greenville, Top 40 B 93.7 has a HAAT of over 1,800 feet with 100kw so Star is making little sense with that comment.

I havent heard them...but are they speaking power as in wattage...or power as in influential?

Some don't even consider them a top 40 station.

WAPE is on a relatively short stick (for covering an area that's flat, about 1000ft tall), and WNOK is shortspaced to Charlotte's 104.7...and didn't WNOK also downgrade to C0 status? Savannah's 97.3 & 102.1, and Charlotte's 95.1 get out farther.

I'd say Roanoke's K92 is probably the winner here....Unless Star is commenting on being the most "influential" Top 40 in the SE.

An obvious response to Q100's "newer, better, faster, leaner, meaner, (insert superlative of choice here) signal." No biggie.

Nudge talks about the 100,000 watts of power of the legendary 94.1 and being the biggest top 40 radio station in the southeast all the time .... so it must be true.

in other news ... with a new FM transmitter my Ipod has a 'bigger, more powerful, clearer signal' .....

Not in the SE, but two stations in Grand Rapids, MI run quite a bit of power. WOOD-FM is 260kW and WBCT runs a whopping 320kW. They are grandfathered form the good ol' days when they were allowed to run a boat load of power.

I don't know about those other stations, but I have listened to Star 94 as far north as somewhere between Franklin, NC and Clayton GA heading back from Gatlinburg TN, just about to the GA - SC line on I-85 and as far south as were I-75 and I-475 meet south of Macon, down past Lagrange on I-185 halfway to Columbus.

It's the same as Coor's bragging about "the coldest tasting beer"<P ID="signature">______________
but wait...there's more!</P>

93.3 WFLZ Tampa Bay is by far the most influential top 40 in the southeast... and if they are talking strictly power as in signal coverage... I think FLZ has them beat too. The fact is, Joe Listener doesn't care, just play good music and quit talking.

How so? Gotta look at something besides arbs to make that claim. Or are you cheerleading?
