Is The End near for Family Radio?

Yeah, I listened through the sign off. No fanfare, just gave the callsign, and turned off the carrier.
 
Was it the same lady who used to give the ID and frequency changes (I think she was live on a mike in the transmitter building, or at the studios)?
It sure was nice to hear "somebody" on every band, even if you didn't care for all of their programming. ;)
 
It was the same recording I've always heard of the call sign and such...don't think it was live. Tuned in tonite...no Family Radio or Radio Taiwan...just static...kinda sad.
 
In Jacksonville, FL, the Family Radio affiliate here, WJFR 88.7 FM, has been off the air for a few days. I wonder if this is permanent or if it is as a result of equipment or transmitter problems that need to be fixed.

I was just thinking about Family Radio when I came across this thread. I discovered it nearly two years ago. My affiliate is sandwiched between an NRP station and an urban contemporary station. It claims to be better than other religious stations, but after a few listens, it clearly wasn't. The music they play overnight, or when a program is not airing is for goths and losers.
 
On a more civil note, then ---

I still do not know exactly what type of music is played in the overnight hours on Family Radio? And to what audience you think it appeals to? When you said "goths" - I think: young rebel, black makeup, body piercings, tattoos, cutting, etc.

Choral, chamber, and chant (the three "C's"). I have observed more chant music that not. I have also observed nasty chamber and choral pieces involving pipe organs. A few electronic organ pieces. Same stops/drawbars used like always. Very haunting, very nasty, and always causing such an emotional response from the listener. No one except alternative types like goths understand this kind of music because it requires such a tall IQ (possibly a member of NEMSA helps), isolation from mainstream society, and a love for being aggressive/nasty. The number one reason why I have NEVER went to church.

OK, thanks for explaining. I seriously doubt, though, that goth young people prefer the three C's. This sounds like a nichey style of music liked by some classical enthusiasts. Not sure about how valid your line of reasoning is. We are probably worlds apart on musical styles, but I would submit all music produces an emotional response on the part of the listener, or there would be no reason to listen to it. As for church - I kind of agree with you, churches can be full of thoroughly nasty, control freak type of individuals. I would suggest you try a very large church, where you can go in relative anonymity. Since you appear to not enjoy music that involves an emotional response, I would time your arrival to hear just the speaker. Look to the intellectual integrity of the speaker, and to the person of Jesus - not the comparative phonies who profess the religion, and you may find something of value.

If I might inquire - what is your idea of a good Christian radio station? What style of music - if any? What type of preaching? What target audience? I am sure I am not the only one curious!
