Is "The Sands through the hourglass" running out for "Days of Our Lives?"

Sounds like Megyn Kelly won't start until the beginning of 2018 on NBC, as the article says she's under contract with Fox until July and then has a six month non-compete. However, her last Fox show is tonight, with Tucker Carlson taking over her slot. With her leaving Fox tonight, maybe the non-compete period starts now and ends in July.

I'm waiting to see what Sony will do, since its been on a year to year renewal with NBC, despite slipping ratings.

I'm also surprised that NBC can't make up their minds over whether to give up one hour of "Today" or cancel "Days" in order to give Kelly the hour she can call home. Either way someone has to face the consequences.

i think it's time for Sony to try something new for Days Of Our Lives and that is put it online on Crackle (their in-house streaming service) or move it to Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime, as the older soap fans are dying off due to them being in between 60 to 100 years old and the newer soap fans could just watch it online like they would watch anything else they see on streaming sites.

Could be Fox cutting her off early even though she's still under contract, forcing her to spend a year off the airwaves. If you're feeling particularly vindictive, you don't want her remaining on the air keeping up her visibility for her eventual NBC show, and you get a head start on establishing your new primetime lineup.

I suspect "sources" are throwing whatever speculation they can get into print around; who knows how far along they are in terms of making a decision. There's been more concrete and widespread reporting about giving up an hour of Today, but NBC may also be leaking this as a form of contractural hardball with Sony.

Except for an aging property like this one, a guaranteed network fee is far more lucrative. Putting something on a digital platform means you give up the guaranteed money and leave it up to the marketplace. Very risky and expensive.

While some differences certainly exist, let's keep in mind how "well" All My Children and One Life to Live did as digital series. There's just no economy there. Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime are going to do more to invest in new original content, with the occasional millennial-friendly re-tread (a la Fuller House) tossed in. A soap their grandmothers (and beyond) watched? Not going to happen.

When the time comes, the show ends, as all shows do. There isn't a viable digital afterlife for the "traditional" soap genre. Though House of Cards is certainly soapy enough.

About those so-called "non competes"...to make a public announcement on this wouldn't that violate employee/employer confidentiality ?? I know that here in Denver and even back in West Virginia for the most part whenever someone gets fired or quits from the airwaves the employer's comments nine times out of ten is usually "..no comment" even if the employee isn't under any contract at all.

More Drama at NBC's TOday
http://pagesix.com/2017/03/08/panicked-nbc-asked-savannah-guthrie-to-come-back-early/

Savannah Guthrie cut her maternity leave short by four days, and sources say it’s because brass at “Today” were stressing over ratings.

“The show was in a free fall. She initially announced that she’d be returning on March 3, but they were in a panic . . . and called her back early,” an industry insider told Page Six.

Guthrie surprised Matt Lauer on-air last week, days after Lester Holt and Bryant Gumbel filled in as co-hosts.

“Their bro-show didn’t work. They needed Savannah to bail them out, so they rushed her from maternity leave. NBC claimed it was because of the influx of news, but the reality is that the show was down double-digits and they needed her,” the source said.

Guthrie’s return did not produce the numbers to keep competition at bay.

Damn!! This soap Opera is more interesting than Days of Our lives.

Problem is, not many want the job.

Word is that Kelly wanted Bill Geddie as her Producer. Geddie was the longtime Producer of Barbara Walters and was also the Producer that helped launch "The View" on ABC.

Geddie was a big name and that who Kelly wanted heading up her show. Word is that NBC also signed off on Geddie.

But, when the Peacock approached Geddie about the gig, word is he turned it down. We hear he isn't the only one.

Others have been talked to, but no one wants to take the gig and most of the blame if Kelly flops at NBC.

Kelly's agent has been trying to plant stories that this is a huge job and big names are lining up to take it. But, NBC sources tell FTVLive that is complete B.S. and a numbers of names have been scratched from the list, after saying they are not interested.
