Judging by plummeting ratings in recent years and the departure of one of its major faces on the show Randy Jackson, there is a possibility that American Idol could then be cancelled after this upcoming season. The show's format isn't what it was used to be and the winners of past season even did not make it on the Billboard charts(I can only count Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Phillip Phillips, and very few others) Heck, I haven't even heard of Caleb Johnson anywhere since he won last season, nor is his predecessor Candice Glover.
For Season 12, I couldn't even put up with the feud between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, with the latter being immature. That sometimes had turned into a Jerry Springer type situation on such a singing competition show. Even the judges are mistreating their female hopefuls in recent years, therefore helping getting their lowest votes in favor of the male counterparts. No matter how well they perform, they always seem to get negative responses by the three judges. I was totally upset two seasons ago when one of its frontrunners Angie Miller was surprisingly eliminated despite getting positive reviews from the judges, this was during the final Top 3 week of S12. She was expected to make it to the finale after not being in the "Bottom Three" throughout that season. Personally, I can handle Keith Urban, Harry Connick Jr and Jennifer Lopez, because they are very experienced in the music industry.
So, as long as the ratings continue to plummet, the more likely Idol gets canned for good.
