Is the upcoming season of American Idol be its last?

Judging by plummeting ratings in recent years and the departure of one of its major faces on the show Randy Jackson, there is a possibility that American Idol could then be cancelled after this upcoming season. The show's format isn't what it was used to be and the winners of past season even did not make it on the Billboard charts(I can only count Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Phillip Phillips, and very few others) Heck, I haven't even heard of Caleb Johnson anywhere since he won last season, nor is his predecessor Candice Glover.

For Season 12, I couldn't even put up with the feud between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, with the latter being immature. That sometimes had turned into a Jerry Springer type situation on such a singing competition show. Even the judges are mistreating their female hopefuls in recent years, therefore helping getting their lowest votes in favor of the male counterparts. No matter how well they perform, they always seem to get negative responses by the three judges. I was totally upset two seasons ago when one of its frontrunners Angie Miller was surprisingly eliminated despite getting positive reviews from the judges, this was during the final Top 3 week of S12. She was expected to make it to the finale after not being in the "Bottom Three" throughout that season. Personally, I can handle Keith Urban, Harry Connick Jr and Jennifer Lopez, because they are very experienced in the music industry.

So, as long as the ratings continue to plummet, the more likely Idol gets canned for good.

Well it's kind of a relative thing. Sure, the ratings are not what they used to be. But then again, Survivor isn't getting the numbers it once got. Neither is The Voice. Yet these shows keep chugging along because there isn't anything better in the pipeline.

Idol is a well established brand name. It's easier and cheaper to fix or change a brand than start one up from scratch. So my prediction is you'll see more tweaking this year, especially with Randy Jackson being replaced by Scott Borchetta, and then most likely a whole new crop of judges next year.

I haven't heard that my cousin auditioned again.

However, she was not so bad that she was shown as one of the people Simon would have criticized, though she was not good enough to compete either.

This area already has Kellie Pickler (whose career has really taken off despite her being voted out early), so I guess we're not entitled to any more fame on this show.

Coke Pulls Plug on 'Idol' Sponsorship

Coca-Cola will no longer be a sponsor of American Idol after 13 years, the soft drink company and Fox Broadcasting said.

“Coca-Cola and FOX have mutually decided to end their 13-year American Idol partnership. We look forward to working together on new collaborations in the future,” the companies said in a statement.

Once a ratings juggernaut, Idol’s ratings have been falling for years, pushing Fox’s ratings down as well.

Fox said that another long-time sponsor, Ford, will be returning for Season 14.
