It's after 11 PM on a Sunday Night, I couldn’t sleep, so I got out my Sony Pocket Radio, and started scanning the FM dial, without the antenna all the way up. This is just my opinion only; all these signals from 88.1 up to 107.9, crashing together, it sounds like you’re tuned to a Local "Class C" (old Class IV) AM Channel at night.
Gee, the FM band is such a mess here, and the FCC wants to open a window for more LPFM's to go on? This is not going to work. Then, I hear a rumor a window will open for AM stations to apply for translators. How in the world is this going to work? Maybe it's just my radio, but the FM band in Nashville is full of junk and there is too much "Classic Rock" here, like 97.1, a waste of electricity. Does it have listeners?
I don't understand why Cumulus changed from ESPN Sports to Hot AC. Makes no sense since they are so close on the dial to "The River". If Cumulus was smart, they would have taken 106.7 to Classic Hit/Oldies that the 40+ crowd would love, since this audience has been abandon for over 3 years or so by the Nashville FM stations.
I'm not knocking WVCP, I'm proud of what they are doing, catering to a displaced audience, but WVCP-FM, 88.5 is licensed as a non-commercial/educational station to teach students about radio, not to compete with the commercial FM stations. Either I'm just stupid by making these comments, but Nashville's FM dial is a complete mess, and somebody, a consultant with some sense, needs to come in and fix it, and make one of these groups cater do a displace audience that still has buying power, and don't listen to some 22 year old kid at a ad agency that knows nothing about radio and people!
I looked at some of the other markets our size, and they have a 60's, 70’s and early 80's Classic Hits/Oldies station on FM. Why not here? There is too much Classic Rock on in this market as well. I was driving to Paducah last Thursday and I flipped it over to 1480 WHVO, in Hopkinsville. They were airing my station's old satellite format,"Kool Gold" (was the oldies channel) and now WHVO-AM has an FM Translator that covers the city well.
Tell me, am I right or wrong or what? Nashville's FM Stations are in a mess, format wise, and all these "move ins" and translators are making nothing but noise. Are consultants thinking we are stupid county hicks and we will listen to anything? For a "so called" country station, just in my opinion, 95.5, "The Wolf" sounds terrible. The music selections were better and the jocks were better when it was "Nashville 95.5".
Pardon me folks, this is just the way I'm hearing it, and it's all a mess from 92.1 to 107.9. If I’m wrong folks, just tell me.
