I dont seem to have the "facilities" to remember who the heck "Randy" is...can you refresh my limited memory Signalid?

it seems Signalid is speaking with Randy Michaels about moving WKOM or increasinig their power...or making an AM #1...
or using DTV converters with LEDs and bateries. I'm confused, too...

bad meds, huh? :)

Names like "Randy M" and "Jacor" are being dropped here like we actually know who they are! I feel like I just joined a broadcast already in progress, and am trying to find out what I missed!

Time for me to do some googling!

if i remember right, jacor owned Y107 during their heyday on division street when tons of money was made by all that worked there..correct me if i'm off base here..but it was when coyote and rhett were top dogs..

If Cumulus was smart

I'll let it slide this time but NEVER say anytrhing that dumb again!

We all know the background of Cumulus, they have no brains. My two dogs could program their Nashville Cluster that they can.

I remember when WKDF was a rock station for several years

Boy that was a long time ago.

I remember when WKDF was WKDA FM. THAT was a long time ago.

And Scott, don't take it personally, but I have to say it...David Carusso has to be the worst actor in the world. You should see Romer do him. Has it down to the starting a statment, pause, take off (or put on sunglasses) and finish the statement.

I still have one of the original KDA-FM rear window stickers.
yellow letters..."stereo rock"...the real deal.

now if I could remember where I stored it...

In my collection of radio station collectables, I have "The Mighty Met KMET 94.7 Los Angeles, WNEW 102.7 (Where Rock Lives) New York City and The mighty KSAN Jive 95 San Francisco. I would love to get Rock 106 and 103.3 WKDA FM

I meant I have images of those stickers saved. I wish I had actual stickers of all of those great stations.

Buddy,
I don't take things personal anymore, life is to short, so I just got a good laugh about what you said about David Caurso! My wife (Leslie) didn't like him when he was on NYPD Blue. I never watched NYPD Blue, but Leslie said he was a jerk on that show. I just know him from CSI-Miami. I think the shades are cool... (HA!!). I'm sure Chirs can do him well! Let me ask you, what do you think about Emily Proctor that plays Callie on that show? She's the blonde chick. I wonder if Chris can do Mac Taylor from CSI-NY?

Yes, I remember when WKDF was WKDA-FM, very well. I "think" the call letter change was 1976 or 77. I was home from school and I recall the announcer telling the audience the call letters had change, and he told why. I don't recall what jock made that announcement. Yes, it was along time ago, but since I was growing up during that era, it really doesn't seem like that long ago. I was in middle school when they change the calls.

Seems like it was that change in call latter came in the late fall of early 1976, maybe early 77. The first I heard of the change, I am almost certain that Ron Huntsman made the announcement, but I could be wrong about that. What I remember the most was Huntsman was coming out of the outro to Kasmir by Led Zeppelin and said something such as: "Kasmir by Led Zeppelin on 103 KDF. I'm still getting used to the new call letters". It was something such as this.

You know, I "think" I recall hearing that same break, Kasmir was ending and Huntsman saying that. I forgot all about Ron Huntsman. Is he still in this business after all these years?

Speaking of KDF, how are they doing in the Arbitron Ratings? I don't keep up with ratings, and haven't seen anybody post any ratings on this board on how the FM's in Nashville are doing. My opinion, WSIX sounds much better as a country station than KDF or 95.5. My wish would be KDF would go back to AOR, leave WSIX the way it is, and if Citadel wants a county station in this market, put it on 104.5, and get the sports off of it. Put the sports back on 106.7!

I'm not a sports fan at all, I watch no football games, basketball, etc. and listening to sports guys like George Plaster bores me to tears. On TV, Sunday Nights, on Channel 30, from 10-11 PM, it's the Andy Griffith Show. I'm a big Andy Griffith fan. Plaster has cut one-half hour off of the Andy Griffith Show for his Sports Show. TV Land is doing better about running more Andy Griffith Shows, but we can do without Rosanne!

Channel 30 WUXP-Sinclair, take Plaster OFF and put Andy Griffith back ON Sunday Nights!

I am almost certain that it was Ron Huntsman that made an announcement. What was even more unusual that this happened on a Sunday evening as I recall. Huntsman usually did afternoons as I recall. As for sports talk. Even though the worst signal in town or what seems to the the worst signal, I think Bill King and Joe Biddle do a great sports show on WNSR. Just my opinion.

I never get down below WSM 650 on the AM dial, so I don't know who those guys are, but I have tuned into WNSR at night when they are using the WENO/WNAZ tower site, and I can actually hear them at night in Gallatin! Down on the lower in of the AM band, signals get out much better, cleaner bandwidth, but the downside of being on a lower channel is that more manmade and nature made interference (static & noise) can be heard. Up where my station is, we use shorter towers, unless the station has a folded unipole on an FM tower, the bandwidth is more narrow, and a heck of a lot of interference from everywhere, including manmade and nature's noise (static during a storm).

Actually, (in my opinion) the last time I listened to WNSR both day and night, I thought the night signal was much better than the day signal, even if it is 5,000 watts during the day. I've never seen their day site. Are the towers for the day site shorter than 90 degrees for 560? That tall tower they use at night gets them out better and I guess it's closer to me. Like I said, I don't go that far down the AM dial, and haven't in a good while, so I was just wondering.

For a station owner, the towers have to be taller on the lower in of the AM Band, and that can become an expense, especially now that Tennessee lets the counties and cities collect a "Tower Tax" on all towers, not just broadcast, but cell towers as well.

I forgot all about Ron Huntsman. Is he still in this business after all these years?

Very alive and doing very well on music row. Probably because he got out of radio and only has to deal with artists and not 'know it all managers and corporate geniuses ' and others who now control radiio.

Scott....you don't like sports..and you battle about oldies. You know why my ole buddy George Plaz took the place of your Andy Griffin favs???? People like him, will watch or listen and the sales folks can sale him. As another poster says...it's all about the bottom line $$$$$$
I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming

I like the Doug Matthews show over there at 104.5. I will make an effort to tune in to that show. ;)

That's o.k. Buddy, but why doesn't channel 30 put George on at 11 PM and not interrupt my Andy Griffith Show! I realize George has his fans, but so does Andy! I just got a copy of Andy's CD of Gospel Songs! I love it! Leslie wanted to buy me all 8 seasons of the Andy Griffith Show for Christmas. I hope I get it! I like ole Barney Fife too! Nothing personal on my end about George, I don't even know him and never met him, but I only get 30 minutes of the Andy Griffith Show on Sunday Nights, but TV Land makes up for it on Monday Nights!

Oh well, one cannot have everything in life.
