Is this the same Rick shaw on the KILT Big 610 AM Texas who went to the Bay

Yes - that's the same Rick Shaw - I remember his voice. There were a couple of DJs nationally using the name "Rick Shaw." FYI - a "rickshaw" is an English phonetic spelling of a Chinese word for a 2 person perambulator, and probably a good DJ name in those days in a large city.

Just listened to that air check - the DJ following Rick (Todd Wallace) refers to the station as "The Big Fuzzy 610." Cute. I like that echo-chamber they process all the sound through. In the Bay Area, KYA did the same thing for awhile.

Also love the "Drake" weather jingle for Houston - "Space City Weaaatherrrr"- A reference to the fact that NASA central was in Houston. Also gotta love Joe Allen with his "Kilt 20/20News".

Here's a link to Jeff McNeil's tribute to Rick:

Trivia - name the DJ who replaced Rick Shaw on K-101 after he passed away. Answer - Ryan Seacrest.

I saw some you tube Videoes of another Rick Shaw who is a DJ in Florida and he worked there for 50 years and retired. I do remember Ryan Seacrest working for KIOI when they had a simulcast on KNEW 910 and Seacrest left right when Star 101.3 was born.

Ryan did not replace Rick Shaw on K101 when he passed. After a summer of covering the shift, Rick O'Bryan was brought in to take over that shift. Ryan did afternoons, not middays. Rick was actually Hugh Silvis, btw. Rick was an ATP rated pilot, who had just passed a flight physical a few days before he died suddenly. It was on the evening of Father's Day. I will never forget getting the phone call from Bob Hamilton.

Yeah, there was a Rick Shaw in Florida and if I recall there's another Rick Shaw that worked in and around LA some years back.

My memory is that Rick Shaw did afternoon drive. I stand corrected - thanks

The Florida Rick Shaw is a legend in Miami. He retired, but is still doing non-profit-syle spots at Majic 102.7 ( www.majic1027.com - his spots air, following commercials, about 5 to the hour).

"Ricky Ticky" started at WCKR (now WIOD), and his biggest success was WQAM. Subscribers to www.reelradio.com get a good helpin' of Ricky Ticky.

Yes, he's still in Southern California having worked at KNX-FM, KEZY, KCAL and stations in Palm Springs.

Yes, this 3rd Rick Shaw who had worked in the L.A. area was PD at KEZN Palm Desert thru 2010. Last I heard he was back in the OC at former "Jill-fm", now called "the playlist" 92.7.

Yes it is. But he worked for RKO in New York before coming to KFRC.

You Mean Rick Shaw of KYUU and KIOI also worked at WOR FM before KFRC?

The airchecks I've heard of Rick in NYC were from the 70's when WOR-FM was 99X-WXLO.

Rick Shaw definitely did work at WOR-FM, probably starting (if I recall correctly...) near the end of the Sebastian Stone era or the beginning of the Mel Phillips era (~71-72). He lasted through the "WXLO" year or two, and into the beginning of Jerry Clifton's "99X". I used to listen to him there while in college and then working in Manhattan, and was pleasantly surprised to hear him on KFRC (or was it K101?) on one of my business trips to San Francisco later in the decade. Talented guy, died way too early.

I noticed Charlie Van Dyke of KRTH, KABC7, KCBS2 and KTVU2 was in one of the promos here and Rick Shaw of KYUU and KIOI doing a spot for Midas. How long was KILT allowed to borrow the Boss Jingle from RKO and the "Big 610" brand from KFRC?

I noticed KILT is not listed under RKO ownership when this clip was recorded.

Drake probably either consulted KILT, or the station may have paid Drake to use the jingles. They were for sale. You can find "air" checks of the jingles along with a sales pitch by Mr. Drake himself - on reelradio, I think. Obviously, he didn't put them up for sale in markets where a Drake station already existed.

"Big 610" wasn't a "brand," and was never copyrighted in any market, as far as I know. That was a common moniker for Top 40 station frequencies in those days. KRLA was "The Big 1110" at the same time KHJ was "The Big 93." CKLW was "The Big 8" (800 AM). There were many others.

Stations with -90 frequencies tended to be "Mighty" - like the "Mighty 1090" (XERB) in LA.
