Is this true? Tell me it isn't true! It can't be! Why is nobody talkingabout it?

I heard nothing about this. Should Entercom buy KBLX, maybe they should give the Country music format another try.

Rumor is they will drop the format and fire Kevin Brown and the whole staff to add a second frequency for signal challenged KGMZ

Check out the coverage maps for both KGMZ and KBLX...they are almost identical. Both have problems in San Jose, so a simulcast of The Game would make zero sense. The second try at Country would not be a bad idea. At least they have an exclusive position with revenue no one else competes with.

Has someone (anyone?) confirmed that KBLX is for sale?

Personally, I would rather continue to see KBLX as an UAC because, KISQ & KMEL doesn't seem to do true justice for old school and contemporary R&B in the Bay Area. Also, competition is a good thing in the case of those 2 aforementioned stations to keep them at the top of their game.

Does Entercom program Urban AC in any of its large markets? I am unaware of any, although it wouldn't surprise me if they do the format in a couple of their smaller markets in the south.

A contemporary hard rock format akin to KSJO in the mid/late 90's would be nice. Smooth AC or Smooth Jazz would be nice, too.

Would Bay Area country listeners (especially those in the northern half of the market) be willing to listen to another attempt by Entercom? I certainly cannot see anyone in the southern half of the market leaving 95.3 at this point after being burned by S.F.-based stations so many times!!! I would be amused if they relocated KGMZ to 102.9 and brought Country back to 95.7.

Here's a hunch! Entercom wanted to stop Cumulus from acquiring 102.9 to prevent the latter from putting KGO on that frequency. Perhaps Entercom has plans to launch a news/talk outlet on 102.9, dealing a major body blow to KGO and Cumulus. Entercom has FM news/talkers in its stable, though they are simulcasts of established AM brands (KMBZ Kansas City, WWL New Orleans and WBEN Buffalo).

In the Bay Area, the KCBS all-news simulcast is the standard against which all is judged. Perhaps Entercom sees an opportunity given Cumulus' dismantling of classic KGO. IMHO, Entercom didn't waste $$$ to get 102.9 away from Cumulus to put on another has been music format.

Just MHO! :)

I hope your HO is right. If true, they'd better throw some money at it - for some live and local talk hosts. Just plugging in syndicated talk shows would be no more successful than Free-FM (a few years ago), 95.7 KPIX (in the 90s), or KGO-FM (80s).

Yes, Entercom do program large markets that have Urban AC format. Think about Hampton Roads 95.7 R&B. One thing is Entercom needs to fix the Sports station before they can change another format. 95.7 THE GAME is doing very bad in the ratings, much worse than 95.7 THE WOLF (Country).

That's because KNBR 680 has the market all wrapped up there on 680AM and flanked by 1050AM. This consolidation of stations in the bay area is getting to be quite insane! The listener's just can't win! Thank goodness for the internet and smartphones!

KALW, KQED-FM, KFJC, KPFA, KCSM-FM, KCEA, KPOO, KUSF/KDFC, KOHL, KSMC, KAZU, KKUP, KUSP, KSJS, KZSU....and how many of these stations are full market signals compared to all the consolidated signals? That's what I thought, not many......I knew it wouldn't take you long to reply either David.....as usual....
